I was having coffee this morning with some friends, when the conversation turned to Real Estate and what the prices were. It wasn't until another patron stopped by our table on his way out...
"The drop in home prices is all the fault of Realtors!!!" And out the door he went without giving me or anyone a chance to respond. Then everyone at the table looked at me with half smiles and said "WELL !"
I remember when home prices were jumping 10-15% a year in my area. Cheap money made for very affordable payments and a lot more home for you money! It was then I had heard the same thing from people who could not afford to buy..."It's because of you Greedy Realtors that the home prices are out of reach.
I remember very well when I walked into a home with a CMA and after I presented it the seller would say, "That's is all good and well, but we want 20% more than that. Many times we listed it for that amount and even got it ! So, I heard it often that it was 'My' fault that prices were so high.
Now, with Realtors trying to help people with short sales and the like, it is now our fault that home prices are down. Bad loan practices, loss of jobs, poor money management has had nothing to do with it, it is the Realtors that are working for the BANKS that are driving the values down!
I have only one valid comment to this...I am glad I was recognized as a Realtor. My marketing must be doing some good! I also didn't realize that I carried so much power.
