Abbeville Opera House Announces A Two Week Run For Cheaper By The Dozen
From 1908 to 1913 locals enjoyed being entertained by the road troops traveling from NYC to Atlanta. Abbeville was a halfway point and would stay overnight in Abbeville. It is said that the stage featured such stars as Jimmy Durante, and Fanny Brice along with entertainment by the cast of the Zigfeld Follies. The Opera House has been restored to it's original condition and granduer of it's earlier days and has earned Abbeville The Governor's Travel Award For Tourism twice and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Opera House celebrates it's 101 birthday winter season and still has a full schedule of performances most are sold out as crowds od visitors flock to the little historic town right outside of Greenwood from near and far. Cheaper By The Dozen opens this Friday 3/5/010, 6th, 12th, 13th with shows a at 8 pm Saturday matinees are sold out.
