Flip This House Casting Call

Author of Flipping Houses For Dummies
When I heard that Flip This House was having a casting call, I practically flipped right off the Pilates ball I sit on when I'm working out of my office! As a sales coach, consultant, real estate investor, and regular guy, I constantly advise students of real estate to look for win-win opportunities, and I see this is the mother load of win-win opportunities.
I am the author of Flipping Houses For Dummies and Foreclosure Investing For Dummies. I wanted to call the second book Flipping Foreclosures For Dummies, but the publisher nixed the idea. At any rate, I've been called the Best-Selling Realtor in America, the Human Tornado, the Madman Marketer, and a host of other names I'd rather not mention.
Unlike other real estate investment gurus who encourage people to flip houses for "big" profits, in my book, I tried to paint a more realistic portrait of the house flipping process. Throughout the book, I caution novice investors not to overestimate profits or under-estimate costs and help them steer clear of the most common pitfalls.
In 2003, I paid $3,000 on eBay for a 250 pound, 11-foot tall nail that has since become my trademark and the center of my branding campaign. The Big Nail, as the locals like to call it has made appearances at a host of fundraising events and has even marched in a parade celebrating the Detroit Pistons' winning the 2004 NBA championship. Thomas "Hit Man" Hearns, another Detroit icon, rode with the Big Nail along side of "the Nail Man," Ralph Roberts.
The Big Nail would love to make an appearance on Flip This House, where my team and I would show viewers how to nail that flip and nail the sale.
Introducing Team Ralph
My flipping team consists of a collection of eager, enthusiastic, and fun-loving characters who have a work ethic and sense of humor that is very characteristic of the Detroit Metropolitan area. Below are their bios.
Ralph R. Roberts, Macomb County, Michigan, is both a skilled house flipper and an avid mentor and coach with the skills to convey his knowledge to the rank beginner. At the age of 19, he purchased his first property using $600 he received as a graduation gift. Once the bug bit him, he would never stop. Ralph's first partner was his grandmother. She would put up the money for his investments on condition that he would take her out for lunch whenever he sold a house. Ralph has assembled what he believes is the premier house flipping team on the planet, and he's determined to get them on Flip This House to prove it. A seasoned veteran, Ralph can show viewers the right way to flip houses, although he's sure that his episodes will contain some of the unexpected happenings that occur whenever you're dealing in real estate.
Lois Maljak, Macomb County, Michigan, is the mortar that holds our team together. While I've been officially diagnosed as ADHD and unofficially diagnosed as being zany, Lois is the steady hand that guides the ship and keeps us all on track. Lois is also an expert in working the pre-foreclosure and foreclosure arenas. She has the empathy, understanding, and foreclosure knowledge to assist people who are facing foreclosure and often help them out of a bad situation while providing us with opportunities purchase properties below market value. Waging her own personal battle against MS, Lois continues to excel as a professional and an outstanding human being.
Jeff Roberts,Macomb County, Michigan, Ralph's brother just stepped out of the 1950's-at least in terms of attitude, work ethic, and family values. Jeff was a key member of the team that raised the funds to build Fort Fraser, a 20,000 square foot playscape, which he also helped build. Jeff is devoted to the Big Nail, which he repaired after its tragic accident; he also functions as costume creator and official driver of the Big Nail during its many appearances. Owner of East Side Heating and Cooling and property manager for Ralph Roberts Realty, Jeff is the fix-it-up-chappy who spearheads the repairs and renovations for Team Ralph numerous flips. Jeff and wife Kathy have been married for 17 years and have five beautiful children-four boys and a daughter ages 16, 13, 8 (twins), and 6 years old.
Paul Corona, Macomb County, Michigan, family man, salesman, and customer service specialist attributes the success of his 22-year career to his close family, solid middle-class values, and the game of golf. A lifelong resident of Metro Detroit, Paul admits to being one the area's most avid sports fans. He has been a season ticket holder to the Red Wings, Lions (don't laugh), Michigan football (please don't hold that against me, Spartans and Buckeye fans) and the Tigers through the years. Paul is the color man for Team Ralph, the guy who tells it like it is whether the flip is on track or destined to flop. He's built his career on being brutally honest in the face of Ralph's eternal optimism and is counted on by the rest of the team members to add a dash of drama to every project.
Kandra Hamric,Oakland County, Michigan, my standout virtual assistant, is our go-to gal for any and every project that Team Ralph sets its sights on. Kandra was a virtual assistant when only about three people in the country knew what a virtual assistant was. Part assistant, part resource manager, and part efficiency expert, Kandra has the knowledge, expertise, and overdrive required to keep our projects on track and on budget, and keep Ralph on task... something that requires an entire team by itself. Recognized by the National Association of REALTORS® as a Certified Real Estate Professional, and trained in transaction coordinating, Agent 2000, Top Producer, Realtor.com, Publisher, Adobe Photo Shop, and more, Hamric and her work-from-afar style represent the future of realty office management... and the future is now. Kandra is also a certified home stager, enabling Team Ralph to maximize their profit on every sale!
Sarah Hodges, Macomb County, Michigan, known to the team (and to her mom) as "Sassy Sarah," launched her career with Team Ralph as an assistant in the HomeSavers Department-a fancy name for the team's foreclosure division. Voted Rookie of the Year, this bubbly blonde has served as the official Big Nail PR Director and Event Coordinator. Prior to taking a position at Ralph Roberts Real Estate, Sarah did business-to-business sales, averaging $400 per day doing strictly cold calls and visits. She is currently married to her husband of seven years, has four beautiful children, a bundle of energy, and the street smarts required to survive the rough and tumble world of flipping houses. She has even been known to take on the scary Ralph Roberts on occasion and put "creampuff, daisyboy" Paul Corona in his place! Although to keep her job, she may just deny everything.
Paul Doroh, Macomb County, Michigan, cash buy agent and foreclosure expert, is the resident legal eagle for Team Ralph. Paul is careful to point out, however, that he's not an attorney yet, as he is studying for the bar. The other team members swear that they don't hold his aspirations to become an attorney against him, but the jury's still out on that. Paul brings with him a 15-plus year history of teammate motivation. An NCAA All-American soccer player and captain of two NCAA National Championship runner-up teams, as well as a nationally and professionally licensed coach for several nationally ranked teams, Paul combines his success leadership, motivational knowledge, and unrelenting energy to spur on his teammates and make sure they play according to the rules... without bending them like Beckham.
Joy Santiago,Oakland County, Michigan, gained her start farther from the real estate industry than any other member of Team Ralph. In 1990 Joy started booking entertainment travel through her family's company, A&J TRAVEL. Being a club kid, she was involved in booking travel for all the DJ's and artists of the dance music world... (she knew everyone's real name). In 1991, Joy launched her own booking and management agency, later to be called the MOSHI COMPANY, booking and managing many of the Detroit Techno and House music artists including Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, Juan Atkins, Eddie Fowlkes, Richie Hawtin , John Acquiviva, Underground Resistance, Aux 88, Mike Banks, Jeff Mills, James Pennington, and the late Ken Collier. With over 17 years of sales experience, 10 years in the real estate industry, and several of her own investment properties under her belt, this real estate agent to the stars makes Team Ralph rock, roll, and rap through every flip.
Lauren Wroblewski, Macomb County, Michigan, launched her career in flipping early on, when, as a co-op student, she first joined Lois Maljak's foreclosure team, Homesavers. Although she started out handling some light clerical duties and data entry, she quickly rose in the ranks to eventually take on the role of managing the Homesavers staff and the front desk and providing onsite technical support. She left Lois and Homesavers a total of three times to try her hand at a host of professions, including paralegal, occupational therapy, physical therapy, business, and teaching, but she has returned each and every time. According to Lauren, "Other positions pale in comparison." On projects where sanity is lacking... which pretty much describes almost all of Team Ralph's flips, Lauren delivers the reason and good judgment that pulls everything together.
Ismeta Preldzic, Macomb County, Michigan, hails from Bosnia, Herzegovina, and recently became an official citizen of the United States on June 14, 2007. For over 14 years, Ismeta worked as a quality control specialist before coming to the states over 8 years ago. Ismeta continues in her role as quality control specialist for Team Ralph, scrubbing and shining every imperfection out of every home they flip prior to placing the home on the market. Ismeta is fluent in German and English, is overjoyed to be working with Team Ralph, and is excited about the potential opportunity to appear on Flip This House. According to Ismeta, "As long as I am healthy, I will work with Ralph forever. I love Ralph, his family, and everyone on the team."
