Fort Collins Population projected to grow steadily through 2060

I just opened the current draft of the Plan Fort Collins Snapshot Report produced by the City of Fort Collins.

Baby BoomersWow is there a lot of material to check out! The report touches on topics such as Economy, Health and Wellness, Housing, Transportation, Arts and Culture and more. There is an abundance of information in this report. I have by no means reviewed the entire report but I'm looking forward to digesting it this week. If you're looking for a fairly in-depth overview (I know kind of oxymorons) of what to expect for Fort Collins in the future, this is a great resource to check out. One projection that I found very interesting was related to projected Fort Collins Population growth.

Here's a few key points that I found very interesting in the draft.

  • Population Growth

Larimer County today contains just over 300,000 persons. The State of Colorado estimates that the population will reach 430,000 by 2030, and could reach 600,000 by 2060. As a percentage of the whole, Fort Collins Population share will decline over time, but will still grow steadily with the county. This projection anticipates continued growth in surrounding Fort Collins population areas such as Timnath, Windsor, and Loveland.
  • The Baby Boomer Impact

In Fort Collins the share of population that is 65+ years of age will increase from 8% in 2010 to 19% in 2030.
  • Demographic Shift will Influence Housing Demand

Roughly 80% of new housing demands will be for non child-oriented households. Main demand drivers will be empty-nesters, single persons, and baby boomer demand.
  • Job Growth expected to mirror fort collins population growth

Office and Institutional sectors to see most growth overall. Industrial sectors projected to lose some employment due to a decline nationally in industrial sector and fact that industrial needs are land-extensive

There's so much more contained in this report. I've only touched on a few key points to consider. Overall, the report touches on some very exciting developments for the fort collins population.
