Melting Snow in Minnesota Brings Surprises

The east side of my home has had the benefit of tons of sun the last two weeks, and of course is no longer covered with snow. I checked things out a day ago to see what kind of clean up I was going to need to do, as I left some of my coneflowers up during the winter so the birds could have some seeds. You can only imagine how surprised I was to find some tulips coming up already.

And of course I was shocked to see this Pansy, just a few feet away, with green leaves and a yellow flower still shining like it just bloomed. All of this had been under three feet of snow for the last four months!

I've been dreading walking my yard and making a list of chores to clean up the landscaping. It's a mess and I know it.

The snor removal guys tore up some of my driveway and lifted some cobblestones that frame the driveway. Huge piles of dirt are around meaning replacing soil and mulche. I can see shrubs broken and bent.

I'll get to it, as soon as the days are a tad warmer.

The pansy was definitely a shock. It's the only thing of color right now as everything else is a dirty brown. Also looks like the bunnies had some good dinner this winter on my shrubs and roses.

Jennifer-we are supposed to be in warm weather already and the past few days have been in the 30's. The weather has been very strange this year. It has been extremely cold-I wonder if that means we will have a very hot summer?

We had a freeze on Saturday which meant I had to cover up a lot of plants, and now has been raining the last few days with temps in the 40's. Thankfully it will be in the low 70's this weekend.
