it's that time of the year again, the Academy Awards.  And this IS Los Angeles.

I certainly wasn't going to ignore one of the most watched events in the world, even though I wasn't invited.  Or at least my invitation didn't arrive.

I have seen many movies stars in the street, in restaurants, in the car next to me over the years, but I still get excited and all silly when one pops up.  And I am still a fan of the Oscars. It is pure escapism. Oscar

So, below is a ballot covering the main categories.  Want to join the Active Rain Oscar Pool!

These are my picks:

Hurt Locker:  Kathryn Bigelow: Colin Firth: Meryl Streep: Christopher Waltz: Mo'nique: The White Ribbon: Up:  Take it All:

Hi Jane - I don't think my votes would mean much because I've only seen a couple of the films this year.  Too busy working (that is both the good news and the bad news).  I do really like Jeff Bridges, but Jeremy Renner is from our area and everyone here is rooting for him, and even throwing Oscar parties like pep rallies.  I'd feel like a turncoat if I said I voted for Jeff Bridges!

Susan,  I don't know.  I am rooting for George Clooney, because he's gorgeous :)

I'm rooting for Meryl Streep.  She totally chanelled Julia Childs - I can remember my mother watching her PBS program as I sat on the living room floor playing with my dolls.

I liked Meryl Streep in Julie and Julia; but, also Sandra Bullock in the Blind Side..will be interesting to see who will win.

Hurt Locker, James Cameron, Jeff Bridges, Sandra Bullock, Matt Damon, Penelope Cruz, I have no opinion or guess, Take it all.  Now when will the Oscars be on, so I can come back and see if I win. I won't be watching.  I detest award shows.

Pat,  when Meryl's in the mix, no one else has much of a chance.

Claude,  thank you.  I want to thank my fans, and my agent......

Rebecca, I think it's pretty much anyone's game this year.

Tammy,  I only ever watch the Oscars, the Golden Globes and the Emmy's.  Call me crazy.  They are on Sunday :)

Sheldon, Huh, interesting.  We will see.

Embarassingly enough the only movie on that list that i've seen is "blind side" and I love Sandra.....and she is one of my favorites - but I love Meryl Streep even more - and I'm on recipe #64 thanks to her and JC of course ! :-)

Jane, I wish I had time to watch all of these movies!  The only one I've seen on this list is Invictus... It was great!  What should I see next?

Brian,  definitely Hurt Locker, The Blind Side, An Education and Up in the Air.  All excellent.  The only ones I haven't seen are Up and District 9.

Hi Jane!  Well, you have a distinct advantage over me!  It would be a purer gamble coming from me because I have seen not ONE of these films!  I still like to watch the Oscars though hubby's not a fan!

So, we'll see how you do!  I'm rooting for you!

Your agent,

Jane, I love the years I have seen all the movies and can at least choose my favorites.  Some of these I didn't see although they have such wonderful reviews.  With that said, I loved Avatar and The Blind Side and Precious.....and believe Sandra Bullock will take home the Oscar for leading actress.

Avatar and Meryl Streep deserve to win.  However, based on the Academy's historical voting patterns, Meryl won't get another Oscar and Avatar won't get best picture or other non-technical awards.

Oh, the city of gold and glam. Hope you've got your designer dress ready for when that invitation comes :). Well we have no clue because we haven't seen any of these except that last week my mom let us borrow Julie & Julia (which Lee really wasn't interested in but watched) and we both thought it was good. Meryl Streep was fabulous as Julia!

Can you believe I haven't seen a single one of the nominated movies, other than Julie and Julia!  I think Meryl Streep was wonderful in that movie, as she is in most any thing she does.

However, the street money seems to be going toward Sandra Bullock!  It will be interesting to see how the awards surrounding Avatar and Hurt Locker go!

Jane, I think Sandra Bullock might over power Meryl Streep this year...it'd be crazy, wouldn't it?!! Hurt Locker, Jeff Bridges, and the rest we will just have to see about, won't we?!!

Hi Jane ~ I'm thinking Jeff Bridges is a favorite for best actor, although my son tells me Morgan Freeman was sensational in Invictus. In fact he liked Invictus better than Avatar and considering he spends a good portion of his life in the virtual world of online gaming I'd say that's a pretty high recommendation for Invictus!

Debe,  can I change my choice?!?

Carole,  Sandra Bullock may very well pull it off this year.  She certainly deserves it.

Marc,  we will see.

Carole,  Meryl Streep is fabulous in everything she does.  It will be interesting to see if any of the underdogs win.  There is someone I know who goes to the Oscars every year and every year, like this morning, I ask him if his wife is not feeling well.  One of these days!!!

Myrl,  yep, should be interesting tomorrow.

Jane,  I think you may be right.  Sheldon seems to have the right combination.

Denise,  I really have no clue why Avatar is so raved about.  It was a good technical movie, but I was bored to tears and the story was plain simple.

Tom,  I believe you are right.

Mary,  then Jeff Bridges it is :)  I am going to see that today.

I am a film junkie and even studied it for a period of time in school, Avatar for best pic, Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart as well as best sound track. Sandra Bullock might finally get it though she is not nearly the actress of the others on the list.

I was really moved by both Precious and Hurt Locker and...hey wait a minute, it's a good thing I am not on the selection committee, I could not make up my mind ;-D

Russell,  I think you are right about Bridges.  I just saw Crazy Heart tonight.  But I do think Colin Firth deserves it.  Avatar absolutely does not.

I think that Precious will be getting a few awards.

Leolinda,  I think Precious will get one only for best supporting actress.  I didn't think it was that good.

Mary,  I didn't love the movie.  Jeff Bridges was good, but I don't think it was Oscar-worthy.  The music was fabulous though and he and Colin Farrell have great voices.

I changed my mind because I read a review yesterday that said who should win and who was going to.  For best actor it was Colin Firth should win, but Jeff Bridges would.  Same for Bullock as would win, but shouldn't.  But I didn't change that one.  Forgot.  So you have a chance to win.

Glad to see you two did so well in your nominations!  I didn't see any of the films or the awards but, I did think that Sandra Bullock looked amazing in her interview.  I love film but, have not had a chance to see many movies in recent years...oh, retirement is going to be SO much fun!

Have a great week...
