28 Comments on Re-Blogging Minutes After the Original Post-Are You Missing the Point?
I re-blog so that people who read my blog won't miss out on great information. I'm not re-blogging for AR members. I'm re-blogging for the people who will never make it to AR, but end up on my blog.

That is so funny I do it all the time. Just Kidding. But I love it when it happens. I always say there goes another 25 points down the drain.
Cindy: You make a good point here. Although, I've always looked at the reblog option as an option to reach the readers to my outside blog with a topic that I might not have covered otherwise. For me, it's not always about the AR community seeing it again.
On a thing like your topic, you are correct, but a lot of times they reblog it because they feel it is important to their clients who read their blog. Their client will never see the dashboard and never realize that they copied your just minutes after you posted it.

Cindy, I never thought of it those terms, I reblog occasionally for the people who read my blog that are not on AR. I understand your point, and will keep that in mind, however I would like to think that those that do reblog regularly do it for their clients and not the points. I realize that that is probably not the case, but it is what it is...
Sometimes a good post gets buried in the blog roll, and not many will see it. A few that get featured, but this allows us to 'feature' a blog ourselves, in a way. But, your suggestion to re-blog posts that are a little dated is a good idea too.
Deborah-I just think that there should be a reasonable waiting period before someone hits the re-blog button. Especially when the reblogger is not adding any commentary to the post.
Wallace-no argument with the different groups, however there is a percentage of rebloggers who are just hitting the reblog button, not editing to add groups and just grabbing 25 points minutes after the original post is on line.
Corey-it just seems polite. Even if you want your readers to see it you can bookmark and then bring it back later in the day or week with relevant comments.
Glen-I've reblogged but not two minutes after someone has posted.

Frank-thanks for weighing in. I've tried to remember to turn off the comments when I reblog. I realized when I reblogged something yesterday that I had forgotten to.
Don-everyone approaches Active Rain in a different way. Just wanted to express my opinion of instant reblogs.

Maya-which is perfectly fine. Hopefully when you reblog you go in and make the changes to the title and keywords that bring people to your site and not back to the original poster.

David-oh so you are the culprit I was looking for. You can reblog with purpose or you can reblog for points. I think choosing to do it with a purpose is the way to go.
Chris Ann-I would agree that is the way the reblog should work. So many mornings I log in and see the same blog title 6 times in a row. 5 of those are reblogs with no comments to add anything of value. In fact when I see a reblog of a post that is full of keywords specific to another area you know it is a points only reblog!
Connie-if the reblogger takes the time to make the edits to the tags and perhaps even the title to make it relevant to their area then it could be a win. However the serial rebloggers who are just hitting the dashboard and grabbing the first 10 posts they see are the ones who don't seem to have any respect for the original blogger.
Kristen-yes you get 25 points for reblogging. So the next time you see 6 posts in a row with the same title you will know what is going on.
Gerry-if someone has great commentary to enhance or even to disagree with the original post I say go for it. If you just reblog to grab 25 quick points then it really isn't fair. Reblogging to your outside audience is good if you make sure that the title and tags are relevant to your area.
Carla-if you think about how many new members there are in Active Rain on any given day, week or month an older post can take on new life with a reblog.
Wallace had a great point.....reblog to different groups. Gives more visibility that way.
Cindy I always ask the original poster if I can reblog, usually only to groups that it is not on and after some time has past. Only done a couple of reblogs.
Kay-for those who reblog with a purpose and find posts that are relevant to different groups okay. Still doesn't mean they can't wait a few mintutes though. When I logged in last night I saw a poster who had reblogged 10 posts in a row with absolutly no comments and no keywords or tags that made the posts relevant to their area. Obviouly only reblogging for the 25 points.
Nick-I think that is proper ettiquette. Especially if you are going to re-blog their post while the original might still be hot.

That is a great point to wait awhile before reblogging. I have looked in the blog roll shortly after posting to see my blogs show up almost immediately. I usually think - "Wow, this person wrote about the same topic I did today" before realizing that it is my blog.
Does it matter? for Google juice? Or just on the blog dashboard. I close comments on Re-Blogs anyway. I don't want "GPTFS" comments on consumer content and I would rather the member who wrote the post get comments on professional stuff. I open comments back up on consumer content but would not on professional content.
