The re-blogging option on Active Rain is an opportunity to spread good information throughout the Active Rain network. It also gives the original author and you a little jolt of extra Google Juice.
One thing that has always confused me is why another blogger would elect to re-blog a post within minutes of the original? Often the first page of Active Rain has multiple posts with the same title and the original post is one of them.
Recently I re-blogged a post that was in my Active Rain bookmark file with an original publication date of July 2009. The information in the original post was still relevant and re-blogging now made it fresh to thousands of new AR members who might not have seen it last year.
Don’t get me wrong I love re-blogging. However it seems a bit rude to hit the little green button and steal the thunder of the original post minutes after it hits cyber-space. It seems more appropriate to check through the archives of bloggers you respect to see if there isn't something they posted weeks, months or years ago worth bringing attention to the Active Rain community and readers everywhere.
Before you hit the re-blog button to scoop up those extra 25 points think about it for a second. Is an immediate re-blog a good idea or should you bookmark the post for a reblog at a later date?
