I have long purchased local honey and bee pollen. Back when I lived in Germany one of my students had a neighbor that had bees, so I got my pollen really fresh. Since I have been back here I have found that even in the health food store, the honey and pollen are NOT local! It comes from the Orlando area, which is about an hour and a half drive away! I KNOW there are bees closer than that, so I did a little research and found out that Eden's Nectar (located in Lutz) is a local coop that gets their honey from many local sources.
They sell their honey (spring honey, summer honey, fall honey and winter honey) as well as bee pollen and granola at the local farmer's markets!!! On Fridays they are at the Dunedin Farmer's Market in downtown Dunedin and on Thursdays they are at the Safety Harbor Farmer's Market.
Since the farmer's markets are only on-going from November to April, I looked online for their phone number and gave them a call to see about getting products during the summer months. Not only did they provide information on markets that carry their products here in Pinellas County, but Beth, one of the owners, said if that was not convenient, she would MEET ME AT A LOCAL PUBLIX AND BRING THE PRODUCTS I WANTED!!!! How many people provide service like that???
So if you live in the Tampa Bay area, think of Eden's Nectar for all of your honey and bee pollen needs!!!
