I am not familiar with ALL the builders in the Houston area. There are so many in the mix these days, so when a client asks me about one I am unfamiliar with...I head to the Better Business Bureau for the Houston area. www.BBBhou.org

I will highlight a few of the familiar names in the NW Houston area who received GREAT marks!! My own home builder, David Weekley, received an "A" rating. Trendmaker, also a favorite of mine, also received an "A" rating!

Receiving an A+ rating, Darling, Frontier, Gateway, and Morrison ALL deserve recognition. Excellent workmanship and customer satisfaction must be a priority in order to achieve an A+ rating!

So, if you are wondering about a builder's reputation, I suggest you check out their rating BEFORE you write that contract!!

Also, if you are buying a "pre-owned" home, you can sometimes find out who the builder was by looking up the address on www.hcad.org (for homes in Harris County). Click on the ownership history, and some of the time, you will see the builder listed prior to the first homeowner.

Its very important for a consumer to really check on who they are working with . The BBB is not always up to date, but its a start.

I'm glad to see you do the research on the builders as well....yes, you are correct the mix is mind blowing these days. I find that the best way to find out the good quality builders is to just go there in person. I understand that's not always possible so I also check out the BBB to at least give me a head start.

John, I couldn't agree more. Look at the history of a company...

Glenn, you are right, the best way to find out is to go there in person...and not to just talk with the builder rep...but chat with a few of the residents who are outside to see if they have been satisfied with their builder experience.
