This was my flower bed this afternoon. The pansies bloom all winter, even though we get down to teens or 20s at night, and get snow. It has melted now, but more snow is probably coming tonight. We are only about 90 minutes drive from Phoenix, but we are 5,000 ft. elevation.
Isn't nature amazing? Delicate flowers covered in snow and Spring on the way. Lovely photo.
Thanks, Craig, and Lee and Carol. The snow melted, more fell last night and is melting again. Typical.
You're at a much higher elevation than we are in our town. I'm surprised your pansies are doing so well despite the snow.
They survive all winter Kate- even in the really cold nights. It's amazing.
Hi Leslie -- Wow, when I think of AZ, I don't think of snow, having only been to Phoenix once. Being here in Cleveland, we are used to regular snow, but it's amazing to learn about local geography. Your area sounds so wonderful.

Chris- Nearly half the state is higher elevation, but everybody thinks of the desert. We have pine trees, and mountains, and lakes, and snow.
Hey they may be under snow, but at least you have flowers! I'm really looking forward to some color and beauty around here!
Leslie,
Very pretty with the color of the flowers and dusting of snow. I gave up on pansies as our climate is too severe. They don't survive the winter. Thanks for sharing te beauty.
Sharon- the pansies are the only ones that bloom in the winter. everything else goes dormant.
Mary- too cold for me! Stay warm.
Arizona and snow just don't go together in our pea brains Leslie! We know it is very naive of us. Makes for a great photo though.
Thank you. Half the people IN Arizona don't really know that a good portion of the state gets snow.
Leslie ~ I hope the flowers all come back and that the snow doesn't kill them; although they are a hearty flower.
Thanks, Dawn- the flowers are fine. They have survived several foot deep snows this winter, and are blooming happily.
That seems to be a bad mix.. but beautiful
your friend in Charlottesville Virginia
Charles- it doesn't seem to hurt them. Even when they are under a foot or more- it melts away within a few days and they just perk right up.
Wow I am surprised the snow doesn't hurt the flowers. Here that would have just killed any type of growth.
Hi, Debra. We GET cold, but we don't stay too cold. We may be 20s at night, and on stormy days 30s to 40s, but when the weather clears up we get into the 50s. We amy get a foot or two of snow, but in the sunshine it melts within a few days.
