Don't be a sitting duck-- please protect yourself

All of San Diego is on edge, and still grieving for a beautiful young 17-year old who was found murdered last week by a known sex offender. She was out jogging, alone, enjoying nature. It's pitiful that we can't enjoy this lovely planet without constant fear of some crazed predator lying in wait.

As REALTORS(R), we've all heard it a dozen times, don't show homes to strangers, don't do open houses, don't put yourself in a position to be a sitting duck, alone and unprotected. It isn't just female agents who have been killed or raped before either, so guys, please don't think you're immune.

There's nothing wrong with blantantly standing in front of a new client's car and writing down their license plate # and checking their ID and phoning it in. The good guys will think you're smart, and will see firsthand that you have enough self-respect  to be careful.

Barb- I can not say this same thing enough times. Realtors get raped and murdered and robbed in vacant homes. This is serious. This is NOT something to shrug off. Never ever go to show a vacant house alone even if you are meeting a woman there. One agent was set up with a phone call from a female while the male lay in wait and stabbed her to death at a million dollar vacant property in Vancouver.

It's a scary thing... always meet your client at the office to verify their identity. I cannot stress this enough to my agents. Thanks for the post!
