Hmmm...  I must say I'm slightly frustrated and a little confused.  Is it a common practice on this forum for people to simply delete your comments if they don't agree 100% with what you say?  What is the purpose of someone taking the time to comment if this is the case???

I posted comments on The Difference Between High Performance and Green Homes that were relevant to the discussion.  This is not about a popularity contest - it is about becoming educated.  I took the time to share what is my AREA of EXPERTISE.  I listed good references, resources, and stated things that I have learned over the last 10 + years on this subject.  The comments are now gone, as are the resources, etc.  Had I known they would simply be deleted, I would have just written my own post about the subject.  I didn't keep any of my comments, so I guess it will have to be a "do over."

Let it be known that I am not here to have my ego stroked - I am here to learn and to help you learn.  If you don't always agree with me, that's okay too because this isn't 2nd grade and I'm not running for Class President.  Challenge me, ask questions, agree, agree to disagree - it's all part of the process.

Open dialogue, and yes even debate (gasp) is a healthy thing.  It makes you THINK - or should anyway...  I will in the future refrain from leaving people comments and will instead just write my own posts on the subject matter.

Stacey, I'm one that does NOT delete comments. Could it be your comment had links in it and the host deleted it because of that? Some folks have a problem with links in a comment. They consider it spam. Personally I think if they are related to the topic they are fine. BUT if you are writing a very comprehensive comment make it a post. That way more folks will see it and learn by it.

BTW you can come debate on my blog anytime. It's how I learn.

Thanks Bryan.

I think my comments were deleted because they did not agree with her position on some topics and others I was trying to clarify.  I don't think it had anything to do with the links, as at one point she noted that I had "hijacked" the post.  It's okay - lesson learned and I will be writing a post soon to reiterate the comments which were deleted.  Thanks for understanding what it takes to broaden your mind &  I'll check out your blog!

Okay, so I was just informed that people were bothered by the hyperlinks and felt my comments were "self-promotional."

Self promotion???  I had one comment that listed my site, as I have great links for resources.  Other than that, the links were for valuable resources and information such as the NAHB Green Building Guidelines, etc.

Let me remind y'all - this is what I do for a living.  I am not a realtor - I am an IAQ/IEQ Consultant.  I work as an expert in my field.

This should not involve EGO.  It should involve understanding that we all have the same common long term goal for future generations.  If people are bothered by hyperlinks, they don't have to click on them, and if they don't click on them, I would make the assumption that they're not interested in learning.  If they would like to read one thing (such as an article) and take it as the end all, be all - so be it.

Minds are like parachutes - they work best when open.

Stacey, it is common courtesy around here to not try to link out of posts by other people, or upstage other people on their own post.  The post in consideration was a very good post.  If you want to write your own post on the topic it would be welcomed.  BTW-you are more than welcome to delete this comment if you don't like it.

Stacey, it's a good idea to get some conversation going in a blog.  Even if you disagree don't write comments longer than the original post. Sort of agree to disagree or write a post of your own. Make sense?

My idea of "conversation" is not "wow- great post."  But maybe that's just me...

As stated previously I'm not here looking for compliments.  I'm here because it is my hope that by educating consumers (and those who serve them) I will get to do less damage control consulting i.e. children who quit breathing in the night, people who've lost everything because they bought a crappy house, etc. and actually start focusing on my goal of prevention.  Just as there is preventative medicine for your body, so too is there preventative "medicine" for your home which will in turn help to protect your body.

As far as the "upstaging" comment, give me a break.  If people had never challenged my thoughts I don't think I would have learned very much, hence my comment about egos.  I personally wouldn't be offended if someone added substance to one of my blogs.  It's a blog for crying out loud - jeesh.

A good example of healthy dialogue is Jeff's post- A Green Building Conversation For Today's Changing Market

It's full of long comments, hyperlinks for resources, etc.  It is how things move forward.  Great job Jeff.

Enough said.  On to something new.

I'm with you Stacy.  I didn't see your other comment because I just found this group.  Open dialogue is just that, and egos only get in the way. I give you a 5 for bringing this up.

Hey David.

I'm glad you left a comment because I just checked out your great blog David's Blog.  I really like it.  Here are some things for you to check out:

Independant press - I was actually a journalism major in school so have always had a love/hate relationship with this media.  AlterNet is one of my favorite news sites - http://alternet.org/  We live in an age where one must "seek out" the truth.

Recipes - I too love to cook.  My favorite site for new recipes is Epicurious - http://www.epicurious.com/ They have a recipe for ahi with green onion wasabi sauce that is to die for!

Crawlspaces - Advanced Energy has some great info on crawlspaces - http://www.advancedenergy.org/buildings/knowledge_library/crawl_spaces/

Enjoy!

ps- I am now typing the word "goatnut" to post this comment.  Sounds like a foreign delicacy no?
