Another in a long line of interesting yet somewhat meaningless lists, Duluth, GA has made Business Week's Best Affordable Suburb.  Time will tell if Duluth decides to put a billboard proclaiming their newfound status as Suwanee did and still does for the 2007 Money Magazine award.

"A wealthy, fast-growing suburb of Atlanta with a town green, Duluth has a mall, civic and cultural center, arena, arts center, and theater. Residents can also join golf and country club communities. The housing in Duluth includes single-family detached homes, condominiums, and town houses. There are several schools in the area, which is part of the Gwinnett County Public Schools district."

Duluth is a great city with a ton of convenience, however, it wouldn't have been my choice for affordable.  In Gwinnett County, almost every other city is more affordable.  However, if looked at through the lens of Fulton Couunty, Duluth becomes one of the most affordable suburbs North of I-20.

If you are curious about how they came up with this, this is their opening line.  Again I don't disagree completely but wonder how they picked Duluth over other cities.

While many of the places on this year's list are near amenities such as country clubs and golf courses, the focus is not luxury, but rather communities where families can live well for less and enjoy good schools, low crime, and reasonable commutes. The selected suburbs were limited to towns within 25 miles of the most populated city in the state, with populations of 5,000 to 60,000, median family incomes of $51,000 to $120,000, and lower-than-average crime rates. We weighted a variety of factors including livability (short commutes, low pollution, green space), education (well-educated residents, high test scores), crime (low personal and property crime), economy (high job growth, low unemployment rate, high family income), and affordability (median household income, cost of expenditures). Affordability was most heavily weighted in our calculations. We penalized places with bad weather, a lack of racial diversity, high divorce rates, and few children.

That is a great designation to have in this economy.  I would use it to your advantage in marketing, we can use every advantage we can get these days.
