Last week while flying down to Orlando, Florida for the RE/MAX International Convention, I had the great pleasure of flying on a low-fare (READ: discount, no frills) airline.  Namely, AirTran.  I didn't really save any money since USAir, Southwest, and just about everyone else was offering the same $139.40 roundtrip from D.C.  Nice!

However, I did get to experience and taste some darn good gourmet pretzels en route.  More than that, I learned how to Use the Incredibly Obvious to Have Some Fun & Maybe Sell Some More Homes.  This I learned from a bag of pretzels:

Gourmet Pretzels  Pretzels Instructions

Due to the highly silly nature of actually giving instructions for how to eat pretzels, this is the first time that I've ever looked around an airplane and saw everyone heavily concentrating on reading every word on the pretzel bag.  Few people will soon forget these pretzels, and that's exactly what AirTran intended.

That instantly gave me an idea for my business and I've now created a sign for the passenger side of my car -- that same car used to take homebuyers all around Northern Virginia on the quest to buy their next home.  A moment of inspiration and voilà:

How to Find the Home of Your Dreams

In case you have trouble reading it, here's what it says:

HOW TO ENJOY YOUR RIDE &

Brian...this is so good; food [more than pretzels] for thought.  what a neat side-business for you to develop. How about offering magnetic plaques for cars; treat bags with Realtor info printed on front-naturally including pretzels, or if in a cooler area-maybe some 'lap-blankets' [that way you can lower the heat in your car.  Many other not solicited ideas come to mind.  Good, fun post.
Have a good week; will look for those pretzels when we fly Air Tran to Orlando later this year; reason for our choice is that it flies out of Flint & not Metro--that is the primary reason.

Last time I was on AirTran it reminded me of riding on AF cargo plane.  Slam it on the ground and come to a screeching halt.   Fortunately your passengers will have a smoother ride and certainly won't be trying to shove bags in the overhead compartment.  Oh and this is a great idea by the way!

That is great, you are right sometimes the obvious needs to be pointed out because it is not so obvious.  Thanks for the Post.

Marketing at it's best. With everyone in America concerned about what is in the ingredients of the food we eat, AirTran took advantage of that and spun it into a simple, silly marketing tool. Priceless! Thanks for sharing. Love your idea.

Loved your idea of promoting yourself with humor.  For many I have observed that the home buying process is stressful and not fun and when we can add a little levity, it can only make the connection stronger.
