logoThe Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce (GACC) http://www.abqchamber.com/ celebrates its 90th Anniversary this year, having started in 1817 as the Albuquerque Commercial Club.

Under the leadership of Terri Cole, President and CEO for over 23 years, it has grown to become the largest business organization in the state of New Mexico, representing 5,300 business members and has gained national recognition as a model for Chambers of Commerce.

The current Chairman, Paul Sowards, is the President of the Bank of Albuquerque and the Chairman-elect, Don Chalmers, is President of Don Chalmers Ford.

I am proud to be a part of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors serving as Vice Chair for Entrepreneurship and Small Business. Joining and becoming involved in the work of the GACC was one of my first undertakings when I started my business - http://www.eloisegift.com/.

I value being a part of the greater Albuquerque business community as a small business owner in our delightful Duke City, recognized as one of the best places to start a business.

I value the Chamber in its mission to be a membership organization dedicated to meeting the identified needs of the Albuquerque Metropolitan area by fostering economic opportunity and a favorable business climate within the region.

At our annual meeting July 18, we rolled out our agenda for 2007-2008. This year, for the betterment of our businesses and community, the focus is on the following areas:

  1. Healthcare
  2. Regionalism
  3. Transportation
  4. Entrepreneurism and Small Business
  5. Workforce Development and Education
  6. Crime

Eloise, how wonderful to be part of an organization like that.  With that agenda, it seems you're going to be VERY busy.  Best of luck to you in a challanging role you took on.

Eliose, we also have an excellent Chamber of Commerce here in Middlesex County.  There are events through out the month that all can take advantage of especially the business after hours events.  A lot of volunteer work goes into making a Chamber of Commerce successful, but it is worth it.

Dena, Ashley, Carole- Speaking of energy, I get that from the good wishes of friends and colleagues like you and from the pleasure I get of giving back to the community. I get so much (including energy) from living here; it is such a special place for me that I want to do as much as I can in return.

George-I know that you have been very involved in your community and I suspect that you still are. Are you now a member or an officer in your Chamber? Do you participate in the after hours events? We have just revamped and added quite a few opportunities for learning and networking to our roster of events.

It is great to hear from all of you.

Eloise, I am a member of the Chamber, but not an officer.  However, I do sit on the Realtor Counsel Committee, and I am part of planning some of the business after hours events that are just Realtor related.  But I also do attend other business after hours events that are planned by the Chamber for all the members.

Eloise - Thank you so much for sharing with us about your chamber.  Wow 5300 members.  That's absolutely amazing.  And congratulations to you on your board position.  Please keep us posted on the great work you'll be accomplishing this year.
