Can you believe that more than 1.3 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in the United States this year? Those are staggering statistics, but there is hope. Each of us can do something to save lives and help those already fighting this disease. That's why I have decided to take action against cancer by supporting the American Cancer Society Relay For Life®.

Relay For Life is an overnight event being help September 15-16, 2007 at Highland High School in Palmdale. It will help bring the Antelope Valley together to help support the American Cancer Society and its lifesaving mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. The Society works hard every day to prevent cancer and save lives by supporting groundbreaking research, affecting public policies that protect us from cancer, and educating people on how to prevent or detect cancer early.

I want to invite you to show your support in the ongoing fight against cancer by joining me for this year's event. Please click on the link below for more information, including details on the inspirational Survivors' Lap and the moving Luminary Ceremony. I hope to see you there! If you can't join me, will you please visit the site and make a donation to support our efforts? Either way, you will make a real difference in the lives of people facing cancer - and in the lives of the people who love them.   www.acsevents.org/relay/ca/palmdale/donnasdreamhomes

I am also organizing a "Can's for the Cure" campaign to help raise the funds for the Relay for Life. I know that hard times have fallen on many people and to come up with extra cash may not be easy at this time - but almost all of us have bottles and cans we toss away every day.

Many of us already recycle by putting our plastics and cans in the bins provided by our local land fill which is great- but for the next 54 days take your bottles and cans to the recycling center and the money you received for the cans donate to the Relay for Life Fund!

I believe in this cause so much that if you live in the Antelope Valley  and are unable to go to the recycling center I will personally pick up your bottles and cans and take them to the Recycling center and put the donation in your name.

It would be great if you would even take this a step further amd if you work for a large company that recycles but only puts them out for the trash collector - let me know about those too!  Let the money go for a great cause - not just to the local landfills.  If you think about it, the landfill will take the same bottles and cans to the recycling centers and pocket the money.

Almost eveyone one of us has been touched by cancer in one way or another. Some of you have personally had /or have friends who have had cancer and survived, while many of us have had friends and family who were not as lucky. Cancer can happen to anyone at any time no matter what race, religion, sex or age.  We need to find a cure.  Please help me raise money so we can find the cure!   Please give me a call and I will come and pick up your plastic bottles and cans (661) 618-9444

Hi Donna,

Cancer is a very scary disease. I can count no less than 10 people who  I know personally that have the disease. I really wonder what we are doing wrong. I would love to run but just had knee surgery!

Actually this event is not a running relay - it is a 24 hour walk!  Even if you can't walk maybe you can help organize a team.  The idea is to have someone walking at all times from your team.  It starts at 9:00 am on Saturday and ends and 9:00 am Sunday!

I have had several friends who in their 30's have gotten breast cancer and have survived, although my grandfather gave a good fight and was unable to overcome his battle with prostate cancer.  I am hoping to be able to raise $5,000 to help in the fight against cancer.

This is my first year as a team captain - so I will gladly welcome anyone who wishes to participate or donate to tha American Cancer Society. You can donate to the American Caner Society directly online : https://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=192365&supid=183332636

If you are unable to donate online, please print out a donation formps://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=192365&supid=183332636
