What would you do with internet speed over 1 gigabit per second? Would you really notice a difference? The speed itself sounds impressive, but your computer would need to keep up AND the sites you are visiting would need to react just as quickly to your requests for information. Nontheless, I came across this article on Google:
Google is planning to launch an experiment that we hope will make Internet access better and faster for everyone. We plan to test ultra-high speed broadband networks in one or more trial locations across the country. Our networks will deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today, over 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections. We'll offer service at a competitive price to at least 50,000 and potentially up to 500,000 people. From now until March 26th, we're asking interested municipalities to provide us with information about their communities through a Request for information (RFI), which we'll use to determine where to build our network.

Ron - this is very interesting. It is high time to deal with all these bottlenecks. But you are right, no matter what the connection is, we wil still be getting Prozy Error and Bad Gateway messages
This will be an impressive upgrade to the "high speed" internet we have all been used to. Imagine downloading large files in seconds! Our area is set to be a test site and I look forward to seeing how google can affect the internet! They made an excellent phone and we all use their search engine as a noun anymore, imagine what they can do with internet itself! It is also said that Google is set to come out with an operating system, and I can't wait to see what that will hold!
Google will have to subsidize us all with mega fast computers so we can appreciate the speed upgrade. Right now it's like driving a sports car through a school zone. :-)
I just learned that local residents of Santa Clarita, California can make a 20-second video that explains why our community would be the ideal place to try out this groundbreaking fiber project and what the benefits would be of ultra-high speed bandwidth.
