Have you ever felt like you needed to climb out on a limb?

You know, take advantage of an opportunity, while wondering if the risk is worth the chance you'll need to take.

Tree Climber in Woodinville WA

The guys in these two pictures are engaged in one of the most dangerous occupations in this country. At the same time they maintain a great spirit that exemplifies an incredible strength and determination. Courage is a given.

These pictures, shot a few days ago, are of high climbers working on taking down a couple of trees in our backyard that were compromised and in danger of falling on our home during a future windstorm. Now, you wouldn't catch me up there these days where this guy is, even though I've done a little bit of this type of work many years ago. Those were the days of my reckless youth.

I was in awe as this climber showed great abandon and courage taking off the limbs while working his way quickly up the tree. At this point the climber on top of the hemlock was already beginning the process of cutting and dropping the tree trunk above him down to the crew below.

It seems clear he is capable of extreme focus to get up, get down, and get the job done, without injury to himself or the crew on the ground. One of the guys confided in me that he was a laid off bricklayer and hadn't worked in a year at his union job, but needed to pay his bills and this work was a blessing, even at a reduced income level.

In our real estate work these days, we are faced with very difficult challenges day after day. In some respects, the mental courage and determination seems equivalent to what this young man up the tree faces all day long, every day.

We all need focused courage and determination to get the job done and move on to the next challenge without stopping to think about not being up to the work.

Be careful out there, but keep moving forward. Blessings to all of you as you face many challenges in the days ahead.

Frank, these are just amazing photos!  You'd think they would start at the top and work their way down!

Hi Patricia, I know what you mean. But these guys start at the bottom, cutting the limbs away as they climb to the top. Then they cut off everything above until they make it to the bottom, and then move on to the next one.

Frank, your post does put things into perspective.  I admire anyone who does what it takes.  I have so much more admiration for these gentlemen than most any high powered CEO.

You are right Nick. I'd rather stand around chatting with these no BS guys, than some of the CEOs I've run into.

Frank do you really take these photos with that point and shoot camera you were telling me about? Great shots and great message. I have worked with guys like this...you are right..friendly banter but no posing and BS.

Frank, I am afraid you would more likely find me on the top of that pole than attempting to do a real estate closing :)  It is all about training and our "comfort zone"

Hi William, you are welcome . . . thanks for stopping by here.

Hi Tony and Darcy, I'm staying grounded too.

Hey Steve, yes a pretty simple camera. I like one I can stick in my pocket, so it is always with me. These are hard-working and real kinda guys.

Hi Charles, yes I've been through some pretty scary transactions, but you just have to keep the process going forward and keep everyone focused on their responsibilities so things turn out well in the end. Take care.
