A trip to England provides the source of inspiration for a spectacular oceanfront Estate..... A trip to West Sussex, England was the source of inspiration for a spectacular Georgian Style Oceanfront Estate in Ormond Beach, Florida. Joyce Marsh is the exclusive Listing Agent for this coastal masterpiece.
The elaborate pediment moldings in the Great Room are modeled after those of The Petworth House in Petworth, West Sussex. All of the intricate moldings in the home are authentic English: Acanthus Leaf, Egg and Dart, and Crown. The portrait of two children by John Comley Vivien (c.1880) purchased at the gallery of Oliver Charles in Petworth now hangs in the foyer. This portrait artist was internationally renowned and his work was exhibited in the Royal Gallery on many occasions during his lifetime.
Searching for inspiration throughout their travels was not new for the owners. They actually knocked on the door of a home in the Buckhead area of Atlanta that they admired, to inquire about the name of the home's architect. It turned out that the home was designed by Jack Herr, Architect, who had designed many other traditional style upscale homes throughout the Atlanta area.
This meeting actually started the process of turning their dream into reality. The dream had actually started many years earlier when they began searching for the most perfect oceanfront location with the most breathtaking views. Their search ended when this location was discovered - l56 feet of prime beachfront property in the most exclusive area of luxury homes in Ormond Beach directly across from the Oceanside Golf & Country Club.
All that they needed now was the right "Architect". Jack Herr was later commissioned to design this exquisite residence to the owner's precise specifications.
This home would need to blend not only Georgian style with English, take advantage of incredible views from almost every room, incorporate a 6-car garage, add in private maid's quarters, and be built to the highest construction specifications and workmanship. All of the architectural detailing, moldings, hardware, finishes, and materials would need to be the finest available. This home would also need to accommodate large gatherings, and yet be comfortable enough for secluded relaxation.
Tom Soinski, of the Thomas Kent Group was hired as their Interior Designer. Tom had not only extensive knowledge of construction and architecture, but English furniture and design as well.
According to the owners, Tom has a great eye for color, and carefully selected the palette for the home which incorporates shades of blue, accents of yellow and red tones. The pale grey with cream on the exterior mirrors the colors of the sand on the nearby beach, and the pale sea-mist green shutters mimic the color of the ocean and gives the home a lighter Palm Beach feeling.
During another trip, the owners had admired the silk wall coverings of de Gourney of London. A hand painted mural, modeled after one they found in an English manor house, was commissioned for their new home. This hand painted mural on silk, features flowers, greenery, and birds indigenous to England and graces the walls of the formal dining room. An Antique Crystal Chandelier (c.1900) discovered on another trip was purchased from Maurice Chandelier in Atlanta and also graces the formal dining.
The furnishings throughout the home are a blend of the owner's heirloom antiques, Chinoiserie accent pieces and the finest English reproductions available today, including Burton Ching, Baker Knapp & Tubbs, and Henredon.
The sellers used the same care when they selected the sales and marketing team to sell their prestigious oceanfront estate. Joyce M. Marsh, CLHMS, SRES, CSP, an Award Winning Certified Luxury Homes Specialist is the listing agent.
