In my "wet coast" area, where we seem to have had Spring since the middle of Janaury, the Island I live on has exploded into blossom.    The heirloom apple orchards here (all the apples for B.C. were grown on Salt Spring and Mayne Islands, until the early 30s) are all drifting in white and pink blossoms...daffodils and tulips are in full display in gardens...the pruning of the vineyards is well underway...lambs are trotting along with the adult sheep...fawns are following their deer families along forest trails...the meetings about growing more food locally are sprouting with interested audiences....rain, sun, hail, rainbows, all in the same day...it's got an April feel to the light....how lucky to be able to live on a Gulf Island, in the Salish Sea....

Li:

Great picture and the islands are beautiful. I heard once that Salts Spring had the highest concentration of men with ponytails! Still true?

Li,

I lookat the map and see where you live...then look eastward and see where Maine is. Now I have to Google..."Why is the west coast of Canada so warm?" I don't know why I don't know this....lack of extensive geography in grade school I guess. Your water is not warm like the gulf stream...

Appreciated the comments!    I do live in a great area, Terry, as you know...the entire Coast, though, enjoys this allure.     Ah, Ty, I think the Islands still catch the title of pony tail (male) paradise...it's that old hippie ethic!   Hmmm...no Gulf Stream, true, but don't we have a Pacific equivalent, Steve?    We are this great little micro-climate, and the U.S. San Juans are a part of it, too.
