IVillage ran an article on homemade cleaning concoctions and I'd love to get feedback from those of you  who have tried a few of these.

Hey, they are inexpensive and non-toxic. I often have a headache if I use strong products to clean (whcih is not often)

Bears repeating though that while these are "natural, " they are powerful so can be  chemically active and used with repeect.

The article cites  recipe-filled resource Better Basics for the Home by natural-household-formula expert Annie Berthold-Bond.

Anyone who wants to go  non-toxic should run out to Borders and get it.  It will show you how to take the following basic ingredients and transform them into amazing sprays, cleansers, waxes, polishes and more.

Here are the core ingredients your natural cleaning cupboard should contain:

I use a mixture of 1 cup water, 1 cup white vinegar and 4-5 drops of lemon or orange oil in a spray bottle  for cleaning in the kitchen.  I sprinkle baking soda on the top of my ceramic range and then spray this mixture over it.  It bubbles up any grease or grime and I simply wipe it away.  Works better than the chemical brands.
