How to earn 7,000 points a month in Active Rain

By
Real Estate Appraiser with AmcAppraisalsinc.com

I am sure someone already blogged about this somewhere - but I thought this was worth repeating if so!

You likely know that Active Rain works on a point system.

  • Invite others to join...earn points.
  • Post a blog....earn point.
  • Comment on other people's blog...earn points.

And the points matter, since the higher you are ranked in points - the better chance someone finds YOU when they are searching for a professional in your county or city.

But did you know that Active Rain generously gives you 100 points JUST for logging in?

LogIn Points

And as you can see from my own points summary - you can also get 25 points just for commenting on other people's blog posts - even something as simple as saying "good job on that blog post!"

So what if you simply logged in each day, Monday through Friday, and commented on 10 blog posts (the max per day)?   That would be 500 points for logging in that week and 1,250 points for comments (25 x 10 points per day x 5 days a week).   And if you did that for a month - while that is a whopping 7,000 points per month!

Have you ever looked at your stats in Active Rain?  If you are new - and you see you have under 2,000 points....you likely think, "How in the world can I ever rank against people with 10,000+ points?"

Well - discipline is just doing small things every single day.  How long would it take you each day to log in, comment on 10 blog posts and then get going with your day?  Maybe 20 minutes?

Would 20 minutes a day be worth those extra points in the search engines when you start moving up the ranks in your town, county, etc?

Right now, I sit as the #1 appraiser (for points mind you! ) in Florida.  Just by writing some blogs, logging in, commenting....participating.

And I have had my share of new appraisal orders from people who found me in Google.   And you know what comes up first in Google in many cases?    My Active Rain link....NOT my personal web site!   That should get your brain blood moving!

So why not start today with a nice "great job on the blog" comment - then move on to 9 others!   Pass around the love - and good things come back to you!  (like recognition, higher rankings in search engines and eventually - MORE BUSINESS!)

Simple disciplines done every day, is the path to success in anything in life!

Richard: That's great advice, thank you for sharing.  I would add, too, that by reading other members' blogs for the purpose of leaving comments, you can't help but pick up useful information and tips.  P.S. I got 25 points for this comment- thanks!  :)

Richard,

You can actually get more than 7000 points in a month.

If you can get 4700 points in one week, then multiply that by the number of weeks in a month - that's 18,800, at least. Well, that's the maximum amount of points that one would have gotten for February, at least. For months with 31 days, there is the possibility of at least an additional 1050 points, not including possible blog entries; for months with 30 days, it's an additional 700 points, not including possible blog entries. it's the blog entries that make it so elusive...one never knows when anyone is going to post to their blog.

So true William!  One can get WAY more points including blogging, inviting others, etc.

For new people, especially, when they see someone with 46,256 points in their area....they think, 'how can I ever get THAT many points!"

Just 5 days a week, 20 minutes a day, not even writing a blog post themselves will put them in the game!   Those who work harder and get more creative can certainly do better!

I am likely just above average as a user.  I need to take my own advice and add some discipline to marketing!

David - that daily email from Active Rain is what brings me into the community each day!  I see someone's headline and click to explore!   I have certainly picked up some very useful ideas, news, etc from this community!

Thanks for sharing!  I enjoy making AR part of my routine and the points certainly can start to ad up overtime!  I do try to limit my time in the rain to 30 minutes a day though...just to stay focused!

It is amazing how many points you can get by spending 1 hour a day on AR.  I have my loan officers devote one solid hour a day atleast 3 days a week and they are earning 5-10k in points per month.

This platform makes interacting and networking with other like minded professionals easy and effective.

Keep up the hard work everyone!

Thanks for the extra points Ed!

VanDyk Mortgage - it's those little steps that leads to a long journey DONE!

Erica - thanks for the post!  It is true for anyone to devote just a few minutes a day to 'marketing conversations' - one can certainly gain some good ground towards better exposure in the market!

Richard,

Thanks for breaking it down into "doable" little pieces.  I take small breaks during the day and this is a way to spend it.  Great job!

I have been diligently trying to log in every day and done occasional blog posts or contests to slowly move up the rankings.  My goal was to be in the top ten for my market area which I achieved.  But now I am just a month or so away from passing #8 and 9 so I searched for "how to earn points" and found your post.  Thanks for the reminder of how to get more by commenting!
