The lost art of handwriting a note...

By
Real Estate Agent with Luxury Texas Living

There is a lost art of handwriting notes and thank you's.   With instant gratification such as email and texting, I can understand why, however as a REALTOR, it's somethin we need to do on a weekly basis.   With the market we find ourselves in, every touch to our inner sphere is that more important.   There are so many creative marketing idea's and I applaud those who think them up, but sometimes the simplest effort we put forth can mean so much.

So what do you say?   Any holiday is an opportunity to send a card to your sphere.   A birthday, anniversary, or special event can warrant a handwritten note.   Or, for no special reason at all... a simple "thinking of you" note will bring a smile to any person!

Another thought though, our spheres gets bombarded with Real Estate info from many agents.   How do YOU stand out of the pack?   First, a handwritten note will be opened and read while most of the postcards will be trashed.    Secondly, saying something personal to that person is a statement that you know who they are, will warm their heart and the client will feel how much you truly care for them.   Third, the note doesn't have to do anything with Real Estate and should not include a business card.   If they're in your inner sphere, then they know you're a REALTOR already.

It's so easy to time block 30 minutes to an hour each week to write out a few notes.   You don't have to send a note to your entire sphere at one time, but systemactically sending a few out each week will have a big impact on those people.   There are companies out there that will handwrite your notes for you!

I'm about to write a few right now... so should you!

That's a tough one.

There is something special about a handwritten note.

Yet some people may think that you're not being ecologically thoughtfull by killing a tree to waste paper!!

One can always purchase recycled paper note cards... I feel it's not about the quantity, so perhaps sending a note to clients with active listings and active buyers instead of the entire inner sphere.   Just a thought... thanks for your comment though!

Stacey ~ thank goodness my mother wanted nothing but homemade, handcrafted cards and messages when it came to giving her gifts.  What a woman.  I was just considering the other day writing all my family members a letter letting them now I'm in real estate....6 years too late. LOL!

Excellent post, great success tip!

I totally agree with you.  I know how I feel when I receive a note from someone and the same applys for others.  I'm in Title and send a "thank you" to my agents after an escrow closes.  I want them to know how important they are to me and how much I appreciate their business.

It's been years since I've received a handwritten note from a thankful client.  Our busy lives now dictate that email be the logical means of written communication.

I love the handwritten note Stacey, I send one out every chance I get. I believe it sends a message that we care and they're worth our time.

I agree with you!   Handwritten notes make everyone feel good, special, and appreciated.  I love it when I get them and I do write them.

Stacy,

I agree, I think handwritten notes are a great personal touch.  I have received a few and they really meant a great deal to me.  Although, I don't currently write many handwritten notes.  I do think I will start ... It would be a great way to give more personal service to  some of my clients.

Stacy,

I carry note cards with me all the time. I run into clients out and about and when I see them I send them a note just saying how nice it was seeing them and wishing them well. It adds a nice touch.

It is a lost art and every now and then I still send a handwritten note, but not often enough.

You're right Stacey, handwritten notes make a big impact.  I started out in Newlyweds and sent handwritten notes to people I didn't even know and I got a response...

There is no doubt that this is a lost art.  I find myself hiding behind "poor penmanship" as my excuse, but ultimately it's something that I plan to embrace more often moving forward.  Thanks for sharing!!!

I can highly recommend Send Out Cards. They have lots of "personal" handwrighting styles to choose from and make it very easy to choose a card from the comfort of one's own computer.
