NO CASINO Gettysburg Continues to Provide Opposition

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Keystone Realty RS294813

David LeVan is currently making his third attempt at opening a casino in Gettysburg, Pa.  His intention is to open a casino resort, at what is currently operating as the Eisenhower Inn and Conference Center.  The category 3 license would allow for up to 500 slot machines and potentially 50 table games.

LeVan has a contingent contract on the property, but in order to move forward he will need to be granted the category 3 license.  The community seems to be split about whether or not we should have a casino.  Many people have been victims of the economy so the idea of new jobs in the area are appealing to a large majority of the public.  On the other end of that stick are the people who are looking to preserve the historic charm of Gettysburg, PA.

Susan Paddock and the folks of www.nocasinogettysburg.org are doing everything in their power to prevent a casino in Gettysburg, Pa.  Behind Paddock are the Civil War Preservation Trust, the National Park Conservation Association, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Preservation Pennsylvania.  These Groups believe that the area is becoming overdeveloped and that the casino is a bad fit for the heritage tourism that Adams county thrives on.

By mid summer we should have a pretty good idea about the casino and whether or not the idea or new jobs and increased income for the area or preservation will come out on top.

Stay tuned of follow me on Twitter for future Casino updates.

This is such a topic for discussion within the communities that do allow gaming in their town.  On one hand it brings in a great deal of revenue for the community, or the other it brings in gambling and the people who gamble which may mean other issues.  Personally I am not much of a recreation gambler, I gamble every day--I am a real estate agent.

Larry - Agreed it's hard to decide what direction we should go.  I really don't care much either way.  It's like a political election around here with signs in peoples yards and so forth.  Casinos do provide some decent paying jobs which we desperately need.

Our blue collar work force has been hit pretty bad by the slowing of the market.  That being said I'm not sure how many blue collar jobs a casino would provide.

Casinos are a false hope that with the exception of Nevada do very little to enhance their community. A quick trip to Atlantic City will give a snapshot as to how little casinos have accomplish there over 25 yrs..
