Love beauty?  The West Hylebos Wetlands Park in Federal Way, Washington is worth the time.A beautiful walk, even in February  We decided to check it out a couple of weeks ago and so we headed out - just a few miles down the road.

The West Hylebos Wetlands is equal parts wildlife refuge, ecological and hydrological conservatory, nature trail, and just plain natural wonder.

The walk starts out with 2 very old cabins for you to look at.  One of these cabins was owned by one of Seattles Fathers, David Denny, who in 1998 built a 22 by 22 foot cabin from the trees cut on Queen Anne that was used as a Real Estate Office located just west from where Seattle Center sits now.

The Barker Cabin built in 1883This is the cabin that John Barker built on his 160 acre homestead claim, near South 312th Street and Seventh Avenue S here in Federal Way and he lived here with his wife and 3 children for 7 years until 1890 when he "proved up his claim" and built a frame house with milled lumber.

The Park has a very nice walking trail that winds through what is known as one of the last "Bogs" in South King County and is now protected.

Great Blue Heron at the West Hylebos WatershedCan you see the Great Blue Heron in this photo?

I am looking forward to going back every month and taking photo's of the same areas that I took these photo's of in February and see how this place comes to life as the seasons change!

Enjoy your weekend!
