We've Come A Long Way, Baby!

Services for Real Estate Pros with Holler Law Firm

Today, I am sitting on my living room couch enjoying pure chaos around me.  My 13 year old niece is visiting from Texas and watching her with my kids is pure joy.  What, time with the family??  But IT IS A WORK DAY!!

Ah, this takes me back to the days where I was completely overwhelmed managing 200+ transactions a year, dragging paper files back and forth from the office to home because there just weren't enough hours in the work day.  I spent my "home" time cooped up in my office yelling down stairs for every one to "keep it down".  Why could they have any fun if I was chained to my desk??

I made two major changes in my operations.

One, we implemented an online transaction management system.  It took some time and a lot of work, but implementing SureClose and converting our files to paperless was the best decision we ever made.  I cannot tell you how effective it is to sit at a client's home or to meet them at Starbucks and be able to pull up their entire file to review it with them.  I can answer any question at any time on any file.  By the way, we now process 400+ transactions a year.  That is right, we doubled our production and cut our costs in half!

Secondly, I got a tablet PC.  By using the online transaction management system, my entire office is contained on my tablet PC.  I don't have to go to my office any more, at all.  If I need a signature from a client, I can go to them, pull the document from their online transaction, have them sign it on my tablet, and send it where it needs to go.  No paper, no office, no worries.

So, today is a work day.  I am working.  Lots of phone calls, tons of emails, plenty of IMs.  I still work crazy hours.  But, I am much happier.  Our quality of work is amazing.  I am also the undisputed Guitar Hero Champion in our ongoing family tournament.

Oh, it is my turn in the "down the stairs sleeping bag derby"...gotta go, wish me luck!

I hope you put the tablet down before your turn in the sleeping bag derby :0  I can just visualize how that signature will turn out.

Isn't it nice to be able to have a life, and still give great service??????

I'm guessing a little something like this.  Yes, I even took the kids to the beach for a little while.  It was wonderful to work to the sound of the waves and it was a beautiful day.

Hey there!  How the heck are you?  Yes, Chef Pinto has rubbed off on me.  Although, I can't get him to blog.  He is stuck on the podcasts...that man can talk!!!  We are really enjoying what technology is bringing to the real estate industry.  You know, we are working with agents in Arizona now. (hint, hint).  Thanks for stopping by my post!

It's amazing what we've done at our company.  Taking our files online has been the best part of the transition, with the Tablet PC for Beth and our Owners coming in second.  Now, if everyone in the office had a Tablet, that would be something...

Here is a great example:  One of our transaction team members just learned that her husband is being promoted within his company and the promotion is going to require them to re-locate.  They are moving from Arizona to St. Louis.  In the old world, this would mean that we would be losing a valuable employee, our transaction team would be disrupted, and I would have to begin the painful interview and training process.  It would also cost me thousands of dollars to hire and train someone new.  Instead, we just need to know what day they are going to be on the road in their move east so we can cover her task list.  How cool is that????

Yes, the computer age is indeed wonderful! I also use a service that has all transactions and contracts on-line and do most of my work at home. I go to the office for meetings, to turn in paperwork and for other things on an as needed basis. If I am doing paperwork, I am normally at home on my laptop doing it! I love the freedom and the fact that I can work in the middle of the night on paperwork if I want to and not have to go outside my own front door!

Bill & Barbara, I'm so glad that you have moved ahead with all the advantages that the computer age is bringing.  We handle all our staff meeting through GoToMeeting using the online link and call center so that we don't even have to come in to the office to meet.  It has worked really well for us.
