Julea,

Wow!  How beautiful!  May I ask where the furniture came from (rental, your own stock, purchased by builder, etc) and what kind of budget you are given to do a project like that?

Hi Val,

THANKS - My team and I do all the design concept and purchasing. We start with an inspiration, in this particular Model I knew I wanted all black furnishing, and the color palette launching pad was the floral fabric. We just spun it from there. I have on my team a faux painter, an upholsterer, window treatment partners, and brilliant design assistants. We purchase from a variety of arenas - from retail, to-the-trade, cpmany outlets to resale shops. We love to mix antiques and re-purposed with new. For instance the Master Bedroom's window treatments and bedding came from JC Penney.  My window treatment partner reinvented the window treatments into hard cornice boards, and panels.  It's amazing what you can do with off the rack to make it look custom.

Each model's budget is different depending on the price point and target market.  The average price is around $40.00 per square foot.

Since these Models will be showcased for approximately two years, we purchased.  I have though done may Models that we've rented.  I work exclusively with Brook Furniture - In fact they gave me my 1st Model opportunity way back in 2001.

Julea, Thanks so much for this inspiring post. Your work is beautiful, I have also loved black and use it quite a bit in accessories and some accent pieces of furniture. I think I might take it a step further and use some large pieces of furniture that are painted black, I love the look.

I also have a question about the information you provided to Val in your response above, may I send you an email directly about it?

Hi Julea!  I'm new to staging and am wondering if you approached your local store to partner with them or if you had to start at the corporate level?

We don't have Brook Furniture in our area...Does anyone have any experience working wtih RAC or Aaron's?  Thanks!

Hi Julie,

Yes, I do work w/a few local retailers, and to-the-trade also.  I'm lucky though, we have the 5th largest furniture store in the nation around 15 minutes from me - so I have a HUGE selection to choose from.
