Don't Judge People Since You Never Know What They are Going Through

Yesterday, I attended a relatives 70th birthday party. She was shocked and surprised, since it was a surprise party, plus she had relatives from Baltimore and St. Louis that drove a long way to see her. It was great! There were lots of other friends of her's there too. Some I had never met, and a few I haven't seen in a long time. One attractive lady struck up a conversation with my wife, where we learned that she lost her husband last year due to MS. She was with him night and day, and only left him unattended once to take acre of something else. Of course, it was during that time that he was fed by the hospital, and they didn't cut up his food. So, he choked to death on a cherry tomato. So, she feels guilty for not being there for him. Plus, they lost a lot due to his illness and losing his job.

Then, we started talking to another friend we haven't seen in years. The last we heard she had a premature birth of her daughter. She was there too. When they first arrived, the daughter hid from everyone behind the bar. I spoke to her some to try to break the ice, but she was very shy. By the end of the party, she was running around and playing with all of the kids. The Mom was asked by my wife how she has been doing? She let us know in great detail how she developed Hogkins cancer, and went through chemo and radiation. At one point, she went into a coma from May until October. She remembered vividly hearing her Mother sing lullabys to her, family touching her, and other speaking to her. It drove her crazy sometimes wanting to tell her Mom to stop singing, but she couldn't speak. Later, she developed cancer again in another area. She was in tears as she relived her ordeal of the past several years. But, she felt blessed just to be alive, and with her family. She is prepared for whatever comes her way now.

So, if you are having a bad day, remember that is could be much worse. Appreciate the ones you love while you can. It made me have a dream about just that last night.....

Thank you for your post.  We do have to resist the urge to "judge" people.  We never know what issues and challenges they may have faced or may be facing.

I have tried to always be sensitive to other people and to not judge.  However, after dealing with a lot of my own personal difficulties over the last year and being judged by others, I am now more keenly aware of how it feels to be judged.  As a result, I appreciate other people much more deeply, respect others more and look to the soul that lies below the surface.  My family has, if possible, become even more dear to me, and I truly recognize each new day as a gift.

Thank you again for your post.....

Caring expertise...knowledge for you!

We only have the "now", ever...and it's such a good reminder, here, to pay attention to our "nearest and dearest".   Also a good reminder to cut some slack, for those we encounter...we never know the hurdles they may be facing.    Better to pass along a smile, gratis, no matter may be the thing that helped the most in their day.
