Did You Sleep Well Last Night? ~

Recently we have heard of a number of arrests involving homegrown terrorists. This trend seems to have exploded over night.

After doing some research it was revealed that other arrests have taken place around the country without much fanfare. Probably many more exist that have not been reported or have been played down in the media.

                   HOMEGROWN TERRORISTS OF NOTE:

  • In July 2009 7 men were arrested in North Carolina for conspiring to commit a terrorist attack. Daniel Boyd a Muslim convert, and his co-conspirators were accused of planning a Jihad attack.  PBS Article

One has to wonder if our security and intelligence gathering in the U.S., is capable of keeping up with what appears to be a growing ground swell.

It seems that no matter what measures we put in place, those determined to slaughter us, find another way.

  • Many profess that war is an unacceptable method to deal with an enemy. At least with a war you have two or more armies clashing on the field of battle. In the end, one side wins and one sides loses. Both sides end the conflict and life eventually returns to normal.

We can no longer feel we are secure in our homes and our country.

The battle field could erupt during morning rush hour at your local 7-11. You could be enjoying a movie with your family when the theater explodes around you. An innocent looking child being pushed in a stroller at your local mall, could be the device to bury you under tons of concrete. Perhaps a youngster will sit in the lunch room with your child and blow himself up.

Is this the new America?

Are we closer than ever to another 9/11? Can we seriously say it is only isolated individuals? The horror machine seems to have spread its tentacles throughout our country.

  • Take a good look at the folks you encounter in your daily lives. They look normal and respectable. They go about their business just like you do. Can you be assured that you are not pouring coffee next to a terrorist at the 7-11?

Is it a country trying to destroy us? Is it an ethnic race we can recognize? The threat, violence and murder plots all swirl around a religion. Is it the religion or a carefully crafted political movement disguising itself within a protected group?  Regardless it's a faceless enemy, without ethnicity or country of origin. It's like boxing with a shadow.

  • How can we defend ourselves? What can we do to rid the radicals from within our borders?

It is our governments job to keep us safe and secure.  Their job is to ensure we are able to pursue the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Are you confident they are equipped to do it?

What should we as Americans be demanding from our government?

There have been countless other "events' but the FBI do not characterize them as terror related, event though the person or people arrested clearly had intent.  They are put down as rogue assaults, etc.

I find I don't like crowds....husband and I went to brunch at local restaurant today and I did not like waiting online to be seated * I have not flown in 4 or 5 years and I used to love it....except to Orlando with a plane full of kids.....I think I have changed my habits accordingly * maybe because of DC sniper or the fact we have a large military intelligency facility nearby.

Dale,  I just found these when searching for one piece of information.  I'm sure there are more.

Wallace,  I used to fly pre-9/11 a lot when I worked.  After 9/11 my first trip was not until 2007 when my sister and I went to Ireland.  I was impressed with the security at JFK and Shannon. We fly again last year for a seminar in Vegas, and I have to admit I was not comfortable.

Jayne and I go to concerts every year or so.  The security is pretty good at the venues. I still have it in the back of my mind that it might be a target.

There are a lot more of them than I realized, and I am sure there are many more than we know about as well.

JL, what is troubling is that they appear to have changed tactics again.  Small widespread attacks seem to be the way they are headed.

A few years ago we lived through the nightmare of the DC sniper. One person unleashed terror on a widespread area.  People were afraid to go out of their houses.  That sniper kept the DC area paralyzed for weeks.

What, there is a groundswell of homegrown terrorist. Perhaps we shouldn't focus so much on getting the rest of the world start liking the USA and just start with our own citizens.

Funny, how no previous terrorist defenders on Active Rain ran over to comment on this post. Whats the matter guys nothing to say on this?

JP,  Even the progressive dems know they are just as likely to be in that theater when it blows up.  There is no possible defense for these people.

These are truly acts of treason.  As such, they should be handled that way.  Start building the gallows.

If a blonde blue eyed female can be a Muslim extremist - will we all be looking at our neighbors differently?  Will our tolerance for this religion turn into acts of violence?  Will we continue to trust and do business with those who we perceive may be harboring ill will to our country?

What I do not see is Muslim Americans publicaly denouncing these "extremists". They are silent.  Why?

If you were Amish - you'd be shunned.  If you were Catholic or another Christian religion - you'd be excommunicated.  Why isn't the Muslim community - kicking them to the curb?

Larry, Oh course we have to include all those so called home grown subversive organizations.  Don't forget the Weather Underground whose founder was entertained at the White House.
