The Buffalo on The Range

We did a little road trip today to check out all of the fruit trees that have bloomed out within the last few days but we spent more time taking pictures of other items.  The other things happened to be historic buildings and a few animals such as buffalo and a few zebras along the way plus some black buck antelope.  Here are some pictures of the buffalo and the Camp Verde General Store , established in 1857 to provide supplies to Camp Verde Military Post.

I love road trips in the Hill Country.  It's almost time to put the top down and see the bluebonnets.  I'm curious.  why the camel for the the camp verde store sign?

Mike, The camel logo goes back to the store being the supply store for Camp Verde and it was a camel mounted army unit located in Kerr County south of Kerrville.  I am going to do a post on Camp Verde tonight or tomorrow. They had 40 camels to start with.

I guess I will have to come on over and visit.  I've never been to Camp Verde.  It looks like something that would be interesting.

Carol, If you never have traveled through this part of Texas you have missed a real treat.  The trip from Medina over to Leakey is just fantastic.  It won't be long before the Mountain Laurel on the hill are in full bloom.

Scott, Thanks for the comment.  I have a real story about the time we saw Dances With Wolves, I loved the movie.  We were almost car jacked after the movie, I did a post about that last year and it is on my blog list.

Rick, They are so large and I guess larger than life, very interesting to view on the range.

I still can't get over that buffalo just roam around all over the place out there.  I have never seen one up close other than at the zoo etc...

Debra, I wish that would have had my camera with me this afternoon as about 50 antelope crossed the road in front of me.  Oh well next time.

Debra, Indeed they do besides the Black Buck Antelope, the Axis Deer and the Whitetail Deer there are about five other deer species that are free romeing in our area.  I did drive about a mile from my house after your comment to take a picture on the Antelope but it was a little late.  However I did get one picture of the last antelope crossing the road and I am going to post it tonight.
