This is amazing - and beautiful. Women in Art.

I think all stagers here on Active Rain are very creative people. And I think most creative people love art and since most of the stagers here on the rain are women or people who love and appreciate women, I wanted to share this youtube video. Some of you may have already seen this, but, I just love it and never tire of seeing it again. It is 500 years of women in art history. It is really lovely! Hope you enjoy -

Rhonda, that was absolutely amazing, I have to show my daughter!  What imagination and creativity it took to put that together.  A rare find, thank you for sharing it!  ( I cut and pasted it into the toolbar) and it was fine.

Rhonda - I loved it!  An an art historian, I reconginzed a handful of the paintings, and it was wonderful for me to "revisit" that part of my life.  I loved the range of expressions and costume changes.  It really is beautiful to watch.  Thanks for sharing.

Margaret - Glad you were able to finally see it! Isn't is just amazing. I really was mesmerized when I first watched it!

Carole - I am so glad you enjoyed it. It must have been a labor of love for whoever put this together. I thought what a great tool for so many different people. I think an Art teacher would love it, or a community center working with seniors, I could watch it many times over.

Monica - I know when I first watched it I recognized them and was trying to quickly identify the Artist but then I couldn't keep up! I felt the same way about revisiting a part of my life that I loved and enjoyed so much. Maybe we could do regional Active Rain Art Field Trips to ART Museums or Design Centers. Maybe I'm getting carried away. It's just nice to share things with people who enjoy the same things.

Rhonda - You know what really struck me was that the women all looked so similar.  There really is an archetype of beauty that just does not fit for so many women.  I loved the video but I thought there was something sad about what is says about beauty. These paintings are almost the precursor to fashion magazine models.

That was amazing -- but I was thinking the same thing as Maureen.  I'd like to see one that protrayed women through the years that shaped the lives of women today -- wouldn't that be cool?  Of course this was woman from famous art.  really beautifully done.

Maureen - interesting take on this, I hadn't thought about it in that way. But I do know from being an Art student, that when an Artist paints, or draws someone else they usually paint themselves into the portrait, do you know what I mean? Their own image is often reflected in their work. The whole DaVinci code thing, he looked a lot like his model , the Mona Lisa.  Some say it was a self-portrait.

Also, when Michael Jackson did that video a few years back where he morphed faces of different people, men, women, of all ethnicities, what I thought it showed is that we really are more similar looking than not. In fact, from taking portrait painting you learn that most people's facial dimensions fit into common measurable standards. Like the space between most everyone's eyes is the width of their eye. That's the one that comes to my mind at the moment, I would have to double check my references on the rest of them. Of course, there is always the exception.  Getting carried away, Sorry about that.

Interesting to think about isn't it? Thanks for taking a look at it!

Karen - Glad you like the video. I find it so interesting to hear other peoples feelings about the women in the video. I really don't see it that way; as I mentioned above to Maureen. I think that generally speaking individuals that are considered beautiful or attractive have more symmetrical faces. But we find beauty in what we love; the lopsided grin, the bump on the nose, quirky expressions, right?
