I was checking my Website stats and who has visited my site (as I do about once a week, and you should too), and I noticed that www.jonathanvettermortgage.com  had been visited by www.Rankmon.com.  Who the heck is this?

Easy enough, click the link and find out!  It is that simple.

So I looked through their very easy to understand website, and learned, that this site lists your top 20 most valuable search positions.  Really?  Something does this for me?  I have to tell you, I get tired of typing in my "niche" search engine keywords every week or so.  Wouldn't it be great if someone did that for me?  They have...Check this out, here is what it looks like....

COURTESY OF RANKMOM.COM 2007

Great it gave me a list of words and rankings, but is it accurate?  I figured I would give it a shot....Here goes...

1.  http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=san+francisco+mortgage&FORM=MSNH

2.  http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=refinance+san+francisco&btnG=Google+Search

3.  http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=refinance+loan+officer&btnG=Search

4.  http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=san+francisco+loans&btnG=Search

5.  http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=refinance+bay+area&btnG=Search  (Not 2nd, actually about 8th)

6.  http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=san+francisco+refinance&btnG=Search  (Actually 4th and not 6th!)

So I could go on and on.  So far the results have been pretty accurate!   Another great feature is it tells you the search engine you are getting the results from.  Not getting enough from Google, find out why, and exploit that tag or linkage through Active Rain.  MSN really strong, find the search keywords that are giving you the results and keep pushing them!  This tool can give you everything you need to know to structure you website keywords, tags, and descriptive text.

Simply type in the domain at the top, and it will give you your ranking for your 20 most valuable searches.  This is great stuff for improving you search engine optomization (SEO) ranking.

The second page is the Competitor Page.  This is " This is a listing of websites which are actively competing of search engine positions with your website."  To avoid posting links to my competitors websites, I am just going to encourage you to check it out for yourself!

Getting your SEO campaign started is important, over time, you can use the internet resources to make sure you are efficiently using your time, and getting in front of the internet surfers you want to.  Active Rain is a great resource for you.  Here are some great SEO posts I have enjoyed...

There are many many others.  You can find this by going to the Seach page at the top, and typing in SEO.  There is a lot to learn, Active Rain can help if you don't want to spend the big bucks!

By the way, my homepage, which I have so blatantly stated several times earlier, has a Google Pagerank of 0.  Yes 0.  This proves that pagerank, though important, is far less important than keyword, meta tag, and description text, than anything else.  Don't get discouraged by a PR 0.  I used to be, but with tangible results, does it really matter?

Where do you rank?  Is www.rankmon.com really a good and reputable resource?  What are the drawbacks?  Your participation is greatly appreciated!

Disclosure,  I don't not have any affilitation with Rankmon, just merely saw the use in it.  I have no idea if the search results are exact.

Jonathan - What a great site.  I know the search terms that I like my website to come up under but this showed me search terms that I didn't even know that I ranked for.  I did go in and check the results.  I used the search term they gave and the search engine and the results were correct.  It is also really interesting that the results can be so different from Google to Yahoo.

Love all the blogs you listed too.

Thanks for sharing and congrats on your success.

BTW your blog has been featured in the Blogging and SEO group.

That is pretty cool! It would be nice to see more about how the information is compiled and what all the data means. You gave a good explanation of how to use the information it provides...is this your site? I was a little confused how you were able to explain all of this when it is not even explained on the site. Just curious. I like it!

April, thanks for coming by!

Maureen,  you are right on, I search some things, this tells you all of them.  Now you can take your findings and rework keywords and text to get stronger.

Jennifer, Pleasure having you come by, I hope to here from you again!

Meg, I am in no way affiliated with Rankmon and at, it is not my site, just noticed that they were on my site this week, and thought I would see what the deal was.   The site doesn't really tell you anything, I just figured it out on my own through trial and error.  I like it!

Thanks for the tip on rankmon.com.  If you also use Google Analytics you get some pretty detailed reports on the different keywords that you end up getting found on which can help you uncover terms you didn't know people were searching on and finding you! :)

James, I have tried to do the Google Analytics, and have had trouble verifying the site.  I guess as long as you get the information you need, anything works!

Thanks for coming by James.

I looked through the site Nestor and Katerina, and I don't see any way to submit your site.  I don't see any way to contact anyone either.  Maybe try sending out an email to webmaster@rankmon.com, and see if you get a response.  That is weird that there is no contact information.

I thought I'd found most of the cool tools by now.  WOW.  Found out info I hadn't been able too anywhere else.  Kudos!!!!

Best thing I found:  I'm the #2 Real Estate company in Google (homegain, things like that were ahead tho).

Worst thing I found:  I don't show up at all in Yahoo.  But, hardly anyone else did either.  Any suggestions without paying Yahoo a fortune?

I am glad you liked it Greg.  I found it to be pretty useful.

Have you submitted your site to Yahoo?  Try that.  I think I submitted mine to get results there.

I was surprised to find this site, I guess it has some uses that people can apply!

Greg, looking back at it, I don't have any yahoo results either.  I think submitting you site to yahoo is the only way for them to notice it!

Thanks Kim!  I have found that the best time to play with google and rankings is in the evenings when you can't work on anything else!  Maybe while watching Tv.  Just play!  Glad you liked it, and I hope to hear from you again!

My site returned no data at all.  (SteamboatHomeSales.com)  That's what I find so frustrating about the internet.  I post and post and add pages and add pictures and tweak and............... get a whole lot of nothing.

I didn't rank either, but to no surprise as I am just beginning to understand all this. I still generate a lot of traffic to my website, so I can't imagine what it would be like if I was ranked!

Thanks for all the insight - I hope to be up there soon!!!

You made my day.  Really and truly- made my day!!!!   I have been trying to find out where I rank.  I keep searching and searching on google and am nowhere to be found.  I tried this tool with my website and it said I was #16 on yahoo for real estate marin county.  I did my own search and found I was #9- the first page of yahoo.  This is huge!!  Unfortunately it hasn't found my blog so I can't see how I rank on that, but #9 on yahoo in a market like mine?. Yippee!!
