NAR Modifies "SRES" Designation

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with DDR Realty

The National Association of Realtors' Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES) designation was recently modified to better help real estate agents assist seniors - age 55 and older. This designation is awarded to agents who are trained to distinguish characteristics and trends related to the 55-and-older population. Some of the areas covered in the training are: key differences in housing options, applications of the Housing for Older Persons Act, Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security decisions affecting this age group, and how to protect and recognize scams that target seniors.

National Association of Realtors, Hmmm not wanting to be to negative on them but they continue to be behind the times, I continue to wonder then they will start making up the ground they have lost over the past few years.

In reading your post, I am really taken back by the characterization that age 55 is still considered senior. I should not be approached the same way my 83 year old Mother is.

Derrick - I found that course rather helpful.  Beside helping seniors with their real estate need I am also involved with the senior's issues in my town.  Learning to better work with the various subsets of seniors will become even more important in the near future.

55 is far from what I would qualify as senior also. But their needs and options tend to be distinctly different from those of a younger generation.
