March Madness

March Madness begins this week.  I'm not talking about the folks who will spend the 17th drinking green beer- I'm referring to college basketball!  The annual NCAA men's basketball tournament starts this Thursday.

Odds are, if you have at least two people at your job, there will be a pool going.  Brackets will be printed and filled out, and there will be frequent score updates on phones and computers once the games commence.  Cheers or groans will simultaneously erupt from your coworkers as upsets occur and potential "Final Four" teams either advance or go home.

What I love most about the tournament each year are the "Cinderella" teams: the smaller schools that usually never get to play before a national television audience.  As a nation, we tend to root for these teams because, even if we graduated from a big school, we appreciate overcoming adversity... we hope- and believe- that on a good day David can still beat Goliath with a lucky shot, whether it's with a stone or a leather ball.  In some respects, we need that belief.  When a small-town college with players no one's ever heard of beats a ranked powerhouse, our feeling that we too can beat the odds is reinforced.

Why is that so important?  Well, sales is a numbers game as much as shot percentage is part of basketball.  The more calls we make, the more clients we reach, the more transactions we close.  But the deals we tend to remember are the ones that seemed the most improbable to us: The seller who wouldn't budge on price, the buyer with insane underwriting conditions... We're proud of the negotiations that cost us sweat and blood, that went down to the final buzzer, that no one thought would close.  When we won, we felt on top of the world.

At Obbee, we're striving to be the national champion in the sales lead industry.  We provide real-time leads to realtors, insurance agents, mortgage brokers and debt & loan modification consultants.  Using the internet, we populate client lists with qualified, motivated prospects: a certain boost to your own "shot percentage."  Good luck on your picks this year, and enjoy the madness!
