STOP!!!

missing plumbing stops     Older properties. Although they have a lot of charm, excellent craftsmanship, and have stood the test of time, they don't often have a lot of the conveniences that we often take for granted in newer construction.

While inspecting an older property in the Nashville real estate market, I noticed that the basin fixtures did not have any water stops installed on the faucets. While not a "deal killer" the aggravation of having to go down to the meter base at the street to turn the water off, can be a real pain.
Stop the aggravation. Having a good handyman or plumber install these $5-$10 items can save a lot of grief in the event of an emergency...

Michael, That is an incredibly cheap fix for such a great solution! Right up there with the cost of Dining Room chandelier dimmers-stuff like that makes all the difference in the world-and its cheap!

Michael, this really could be an inconvenience...especially if one needed to turn the water off ASAP.

Michael - Folks put it off until they need to quickly turn the water off; sometimes they don't even know where the turn-off is located.

Those little $5-$10 dollar water stops can come in VERY handy if you ever have a leak. Imagine running down to the water meter to shut off the water. Those precious moments can make all the difference in how much damage might occur.

Michael, those stops can keep hundreds of dollars in damage from making your day.  We once had a "helpful hubby" try to fix a faucet.  One little memory slip...didn't turn off the water first....Old Faithful in the bath.  A water stop saved the day, just like the Lone Ranger.  Something to giggle about now and thanks for the memories....

Michael - I enjoy going to home inspections with my buyers to learn up to date codes and safety issues in the Townships that I cover. Thanks for the instruction and I'm sitting here in my slippers, better yet.

Michael,

Guess you need to make sure they have a street shutoff handy.

Michael - When we moved to TN it was the first time I had city water and knew nothing about the "key" to shut off the water.  We had a pipe freeze at the barn, I called the water company becuare I had not way to shut it off.  He asked me if I had the "key".  I looked at my key chain and had not idea which key he may be revferring to.  When he showed up with this long pole I learned what a water key was.  I also called a plumber and had a shutoff put in the house and in the barn.

You are so right there.  While we were on vacation (and my kitchen was being renovated), the water supply to our toilet decided it was too old to carry water anymore and broke.  It was a good thing the contractors were there working anyway and were able to shut off the water main quickly, otherwise my basement quilt studio would have been under water.  But, it did teach me that we needed shut off's at all the water spots in the house.
