Facts about GUINNESS !!!!

By
Mortgage and Lending with National Credit Fixers - Matt Listro

FACT: Arthur Guinness & Sons deliberately chose the harp symbol as its logo or symbol to appeal to nationalist pride in Ireland. The harp is also a symbol of Ireland., which appears on the back of their coinage. The Irish Government and Guinness versions of the symbol are identical, except for the fact that the Guinness Harp faces left, while the official government version faces right

FACT: 2009 marks the 250th anniversary of Guinness.

FACT: Guinness is brewed in more than 150 countries worldwide.

FACT: Guinness stout (first brewed in 1759 in Dublin Ireland) has become synonymous with Ireland and Irish bars.  Each year 1.9 billion pints agree consumed around the world. 40% of all sales are in Africa!

FACT: Guinness contains only 198 calories per pint!  That is less than most light beers, wine, OJ, or even light milk!

FACT: Arthur Guinness & Sons also own Smithwicks (pronounced without the "w") & HARP Lager

FACT: Black and Tan is Guinness (or some other stout) mixed with another lighter colored beer such as a pale ale or lager

FACT: Black Velvet is Guinness and Champagne in equal proportions

FACT: A poor-man's Black Velvet is Guinness and cider

FACT: A Drop of Diesel is a pint of Smithwicks with a shot of Guinness dropped into the full pint glass, darkening the Smithwicks and adding a hint of Guinness taste.  It was popular in some Irish pub's in the mid 1980s.

FACT: Golden Cream was created in 1986 by Ned Won.  Add 8-10 ounces of BOTTLED Guinness to large English pub pint glass (20oz).  Allow a few seconds to settle so there is NO head.  Add several scoops of quality vanilla ice-cream very slowly.  Wait 1 minute, serve with a long ice-cream spoon.  Under no circumstances should the ice-cream be added to the glass first.

FACT: Irish Car Bomb: A shot of Jamiesons with a little Baileys on the top; dropped into a pint of Guinness.

FACT: Guinness Stout --> A pint of the black stuff a day works as well as an aspirin to prevent heart clots that raise the risk of heart attacks according to experts from the University of Wisconsin (now why didn't I go there for college?)!

FACT: Guinness is known to be high in iron content.

FACT: A person's nationality can be determined by the number of rings (a ring is dependent on a swig of Guinness each swig leaving it's own ring) in their glass!  An Irishman will have in the region of 5-6 rings (we pace ourselves), an Englishman will have 8-10 rings, an American will have 17-20 (they sip) and an Australian won't have any at all as they tend to knock it back in one go!

FACT: A "proper" pint of Guinness should be poured in "Guinness Time": roughly three quarters of the pint is pulled, and then left to settle. Once the head has fully formed, the glass is then topped up. This convention is often disregarded outside Ireland, which is one reason why people think Guinness tastes better in Ireland. Another reason is that the lines which carry the Guinness from keg to tap are treated with a special reverence in Ireland, and are generally always kept scrupulously clean.

FACT: The Proper pour (see above) should take 119.5 seconds (who comes up with this stuff anyway) and should be served at 6 degrees Celsius (thats 42.8 Fahrenheit)

Happy Guinness (er I mean St. Patrick's) Day!

I'm not a beer drinker at all, Matt.  And a dark beer doesn't sound better.  But, if Guinness is high in iron content and I'm anemic, does that mean I should head to Ireland for the perfect pour and have myself a pint or two?

It is shocking on how light the taste is for how dark the beer. Plus Men's Health loves this beer for caloric intake.
