Luck of the Irish

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  My mother's family is from Ireland, so I am always eager to celebrate March 17th.  I wear green, listen to my Wolfetones CD in the car and usually have a Guinness with dinner.  Growing up, my mom told me it was "bad luck" not to wear green on St. Patrick's Day.  And indeed, luck and the Irish go hand-in-hand.

My kids have asked me about luck and superstitions, since I've warned them about walking under ladders, opening umbrellas inside the house, etc.  They wanted to know if I really thought I would have "good luck" if I picked up a penny, for example.  I told them no, that deep down I don't really believe in superstitions, but life is a lot more fun if we pretend they're real.

It's easy to get carried away, though, especially in sales.  Every office, it seems, has its own traditions and superstitions that are observed to varying degrees.  But as my dad (a sales manager) was fond of telling me as a child, "The harder I work, the luckier I get."  He told me that salespeople who relied upon luck to succeed always seemed to run out of it.  The ones who worked steadily and persistently made their own luck, he said.  I have always remembered his lessons... but I still wear green on St. Patrick's Day.  :)

Obbee may not improve your luck, but it will help your odds of closing deals if you're a realtor, insurance agent, mortgage broker or debt or loan modification counselor.  We use the internet (not leprechauns) to develop prospect lists of qualified, motivated sales leads.  We can even match up clients with sales professionals in real-time.  I guess you could think of Obbee as your lucky charm!

David, I've always liked that quote, "The harder I work, the luckier I get."  I generally go against superstitions, but I'll wear green today.

Eleanor: Thanks for the comment- I like that phrase!  Dan: Thank you- I obviously agree!  Life is just more fun if we allow ourselves a bit of belief in luck.
