My favorite Holiday, ah the luck Irish and there is no better place to spend it than an Irish Pub with half of Austin and Green Beer Lovers. Last year was my first time to experience the greatness/craziness that Fado's has to offer on this joyous day.
I'll start by saying that the doors open at 6:00am that is enough in itself to let you know that they are serious about their holiday. They are host to Austin's Largest St. Patrick's Day Outdoor Festival -they close down 4th Street and set up a large tent area, beer garden . . it absolutely packed, I managed to make it out there by 2:00 last year and celebrations were in full swing. They have two stage areas that will be playing live music from 1:00 until days end.
Fado's is great all year as they offer a great menu that does not disappoint, word is they have great fish n chips.. Today though is their Mackdaddy of days and a true experience for those out looking for a place to celebrate. I am warning you - you have to be ready for what you are getting into. For those who have been lucky enough to experience Mardi Gras on Bourbon Street this celebration takes me back there in some small way - maybe it is the drinking outside (because that is normally not allowed) it's an all out celebration.
*I have never been to Ireland so I cannot speak on the authenticity of it but as far as I am concerned it's as close to Dublin as we are going to get here in Austin, Texas.
Don't forget to wear green. A holiday celebrating luck, good fortune, what's not to love, May the Luck of the Irish be with you always.
