The 80's Called & They Want Your Glamour Picture Back!

80'sYou know you have seen it before.  That all too amazing glamour shot from 1985 framed on a business card made.... Last Week.  I don't run into these too often but have you ever seen a business card before actually meeting the person and when you do meet that person you have no idea who they are?  Or maybe you think to yourself... Is this the daughter/son of the person I am trying to meet?  Been there done that and I think most of us have too.

I have seen some classics anywhere from the high bangs to mullets floating around my office.  At one time I was thinking of making a collection of those all too cool business cards but decided if the person I knew saw that they were a part of my collection they may get a little offended.

So the question is... How long should you keep your photo before replacing it?

I have had mine for a few years so by some standards mine is getting old already and to be truthful about it, I don't plan1980's on changing it any time in the next 6-7 years.  It's just too much of a pain to sit down get dressed up, have the light hit you right and smile at the same time.

I will say though for the sake of your own business if your picture is from the 90's you may want to consider changing it and if it's from the 80's it's got to go but if for some reason your picture is from the 70's... all I can say is wow, and congrats I wouldn't change a thing as you obviously know what your doing if your still in business.

I hope not to offend here but only to make a little fun of ourselves on a great day.

LOL! I am always amazed when I see a photo that you KNOW is old. One lady in our market has a photo so old it's in black and white. I am not kidding! Seriously though, aren't we supposed to paint a "true and accurate picture"? I interpret that to mean of ourselves, not just our listings.

So true, let's keep our pictures current. That is why I do video blogs. They are always current, can't trick a flip camera. It might be a day old but that's about it. YES, let's make sure our picture is at least from the same decade. Good post.

I just laugh when I see people's online or business card pixs that was obviously taken 20 years ago. Come on! We talk about how good our listing pixs must be,,,lets take the same time to make sure we look at least okay.

I met one Realtor who was using a 20-25 year old pic.

In the pic he had a full head of thick hair.

In person, he was completely bald.

I just came across this on Thursday!! An agent gave me his card and it had to be a good double decade old.  I did a tripple take between him and the card and he got the point.  I guess since i wont be growing a ton of new hair or going grey I'll wait till the bags and the laugh lines Tell On Me.  :)

Haha! I personally like the laugh (as long as no one's laughing at me). I say keep the glamour shots coming. And what the heck, the mullets too!

One of the reasons I wouldn't miss facebook is all the pictures from high school and college that show up on their showing those wonderful cloths and haircuts that I had in the 80s.

Its so easy these days to upload new photos!

I think when you re-order cards you should update.  If you are not circulating enough cards for a re-order get out and network some more.

so funny...i just finally changed my picture from 10 years ago.  It took me awhile, but there are so many places now that I am on the internet that you have to update.  It will probably take me a few months :)

Joe,

I did a post on this too. A very high profile Realtor I met for the first time in persdon, I had to introduced to. She looked nothing like her picture which has to be 20 years old.

This makes me laugh out loud ! I too, as many have have had to do a double take with these cards. It should be a requirement or at the very least against the laws of business to use an outdated picture. A new  picture should be required  every two years. Man do some people like living in the past. I got one the other day from a school mate who was of all things in a 80's rock band, he has that posted on his web site . To see him now you have no idea who he is! pot belly ,short hair and grey. They do make for good intertainment but geeesh, give me a break.

Love the post. I did one on different agent photos also a awhile back. One of my favorite "light" subjects. I am considering growing the mullett also but in my pic, I want to be wearing all red, holding my (insert pet here) wearing a hat, leaning up against my giant name with my arms crossed and 2 big thumbs up and some glasses perhaps from 1979.

YES JOE!!!  Thank you for the Glamour Shots post.  I've had it in my mind to write, but so glad you did it.  The top producing agent in our are (YES, A.B., I'M TALKING ABOUT YOU) has a Glamour Shot from the 80's and it looks NOTHING like her.  I would think her clients probably don't recognize her when she meets them for the 1st time.  I understand being consistent with your branding, but I think after 25 or so years that it's time to update that pic.
