BIG SOUTH FORK TENNESSEE: An Unlikely Landmark!

By
Real Estate Agent with Tennessee Recreational Properties

The Spruce Creek equestrian community is located at the west entrance to Big South Fork National Park, almost equidistant between Jamestown and Oneida, Tennessee so Spruce Creek residents will travel to one town or the other, depending on the nature of their errands.

To get to Oneida, you head east on State Highway 297, also called "Leatherwood Ford Road." If you've never been there before, you'll likely ask directions to wherever you're going and the answer will likely be, "When Third tees into Alberta Street, you'll see a palm tree straight ahead..."

A WHAT?? Tennessee is temperate, not tropical, so that just doesn't make any sense!

But there is indeed a palm tree there on the corner, complete with coconuts. It's fake and as unlikely a landmark as that is, it sure gets the job done because ya' just can't miss it!

This fake palm tree does get your attention!

To get to the vet or to the feed mill, turn right at the palm tree. To get to Walmart, turn left at the palm tree. See what I mean?

Pretty cool landmark, but all you people relying on this tree better hope it never gets taken down!

I looked at the picture first and that fake palm tree just yelled out at me, "Hey! I'm fake!"

Hi, Carra. I live about an eighth of a mile from Big South Fork National Park, in the Spruce Creek equestrian community. When people are trying to find my house, they come to the main entrance to Spruce Creek and always want to turn onto Spruce Creek Drive, thinking they're there. Thankfully, I have a great landmark that I can use as a point of reference; it's a horse campground called "True West" that LOOKS like a Western town. The y can't miss it!

Hi, Sharon. Read Russel's comment....I think he's on a plane at this very moment, en route to Oneida TN to dispatch that imposter!

Hi, Russel. It get's worse! Twice as bad, actually. I cropped the picture but there are TWO fake palm trees there. They are so obviously....not real....that you just have to laugh!
