What is the most annoying workplace habit? If you are going by today's article on Forbes.com the answer is "loud talkers". Since office environment is one of the biggest factors that influence an experienced agent's decision to move their business, this article should be read by every broker/ owner or branch manager.

As broker/ owners and branch managers, why not review these office pet peeves, and address them during your interview. Ask your prospect what tops their list in regards to any of these "pet peeves" and try to arrange their workspace accordingly. Let's face it, everyone has a pet peeve, and if someone is moving their business due to their current office environment, make sure you are setting them up for success, not frustration.  Let your prospects and your current agents know what acceptable behavior is, and what is not acceptable.  Your prospects will thank you for it.

If you practice perfect workplace etiquette, what is your "pet peeve?" If not, what is your most annoying workplace habit?

I actually leave my desk kind of messy when I go home for the night.  In the morning I clean before I start working.

Because of my low tone, I too was accused of being a loud talker.  I've since amended my annoying ways.  I have interjected when I hear certain annoying ringtones for the 57th time.  Yeah, you know who you are!

My pet peeve is other people not being able to read me or someone else. They get too close when they speak to you or they don't realize that you are not interested in their stories and it is hard to get away. I for one am always checking the body languaue of the person I am speaking with. No one in my office does this !!! LOL

I hate wall hangers.  They come into my office, lean against the wall and complain they have nothing going on.  Now we've all been there but that's not very productive.  I bet if they spent that time cold calling etc.,they might have something to do.  But hanging in my office keeps me from getting my work done.  Visit for a minute - sure I'd love to but don't hang out in here.  That's the reason I work at home mostly.

Hi Kevin- What a great point! There are volume controls on phones for a reason. Luckily, most people keep their phones on silent here during the day. Occasionally one forgets, but not for long!

Hi Randi- You have mentioned one of my "peeves" as well... when you are trying to walk away from someone, and they aren't reading your body language so they follow you, and continue the conversation!

Hi Sybil- I like that... "Wall hangers", I know exactly the type you are speaking of. They usually interupt what ever conversation or work you are in the middle of to come in and "hang out" as well. I guess since they aren't motivated, no one else should be able to get their work done either!

I can't stand when some of my coworkers stand around chit chating near my cubicle when I am on the phone with candidates. It makes it hard to focus, and I am always worried the person on the other end of the line can hear them complaining about the tempature in the office or how much of a hassle a certain client is.

Hi Mindi! I know the feeling, just when you have a live voice, and not voicemail on the other end of the line, "the complainer" starts. Luckily, I don't have one of those here, but I have in past offices and you are right, it's annoying!

"Time Suckers"!!  However, it does give me an opportunity to practice patience!

This is a great post and you are right most agents change offices, because of either politics or other pet peeve. If the new broker doesn't have anything different, it will be back to the highway and another office sooner than later.
