Q. Are iPhones and blackberries are going to eventually replace business telephone systems?
People often come up and ask me if they think that personal devices assistants like iPhones and blackberries are going to eventually replace business telephone systems possibly one day. They may one day. However because they do cost alot- the cost of $700 or so for iPhone and about $1500 a year for cell packages is not cheap.
So I still can't eventually see them completely replacing business phone systems because you need multiple business lines for bigger companies.
And more importantly as a business, you need access and call control.
The company needs to be able to control the flow of calls from the clients and they can't do that if you're calling to personal cell phones.
I see telephone systems been a source of control. Control means many in to one and then back out to many again and you can't get that with a personal device assistance like iPhones and blackberries
For the time being I don't see any change and no business is going to want to lose control over their communications by extending into PDAs directly. Even if the business controls the cell numbers, they lose track time and call managent hen clients are able to circumvent the business call management metrics. No measurement means no management.
