This Is REALLY Cool, Check Out Zillow's New Android App

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Zillow

Once we saw how popular the Zillow iPhone app was (about a million downloads since its launch), we knew a Zillow Android app was in the near future, and today it is here!

Watch the video for a quick demonstration, it is REALLY cool.  On this app, you can even do voice searches.  And like the Zillow iPhone app, the platform is built with GPS technology, allowing the information to display with you as you walk or drive around neighborhoods.  Finally, because it is a Google based system, the Android platform really allowed for some great use of Google's Street View mapping system.

I'll keep the text description short, because I think the video does a better job describing the new app than words can:

Tip:  If your listings are on Zillow, then they are on both the Zillow iPhone and Android apps, so be sure to include this information in your listing presentations.  "List with me and I'll get your home on the most popular real estate mobile applications..."  Here is a link to a listing presentation piece to communicate this mobile strategy

It's great that Zillow is investing $$ into mobile apps.  But how about investing $$ into a product that works??  Zestimates around here are HORRIBLY wrong!

Sara:

This is really cool. My next phone will be an andriod phone, as I avoid supporting Apple products whenever possible. (I even bought 3 different Mp3 palyers before giving up and coming over to the dark side of the iPod)

All - Thanks for the comments.  So fun to read how passionate people get about their brand of choice.  I think the android has a good shot at making it.  Anyone bite the bullet with the iPad yet?  I am passing for now, but that too is a mobile technology that is sure to evolve.

Richard - Actually in Montegomery County the Zestimates are off by a mediam err rate of 7.2% (data here).

I have a Droid phone and the app seems really cool.  I am looking forward to the day when Zillow estiamtes in my area (Lake Tahoe) are not so far fetched.  I constantly get calls from buyers and sellers saying that Zillow says this or that about my home and often the estimates are so off that it makes the product less credible.  I am sure with time you will figure that out but it would be great if the Zestimates had some sort of credibility.  Thanks for the post.

Best regards, Dave

The Droid app from Zillow is very powerful. It shows how far technology, for both consumers and agents, has come in the last few years.

Technology is changing so fast it is hard to keep it all in check in regards to real estate.  Are there any suggestions on how to embrace this technology with our cients?  I can clearly see how this app will make our jobs easier but how do we embrace this with our clients?

Missy, I have had a Motorola Droid since November.  I never thought a phone could be this much fun. I only use apps for real estate; no games, no gimmicks, etc.  It works extremely well for everyday tasks.  It does not synch with a Mac but I have gmail and a google calendar.  The Droid has an app just for gmail so it works perfectly.  The google calendar easily synchs with my Mac without me doing anything.  Then it automatically synchs with my Droid.  I do nothing but watch them work seamlessly.  Best combination I have ever had.

Let me get this right. A small percentage of home buyers have the Droid or Apple iphone. The web site of Zillow and Realtor dot coms are both consumer oriented - meaning they lack the information most agents want and need to serve the public. Yet, both Zillow and Realtor dot com chase after this market and RE Agents here think its a great thing.

I'll keep my money and hook up with the MLS on my smart phone to do the search, thank you.

Sara, while the median error rate in Montgomery County may be 7.2%, that statistic is also wildly misleading.  The standard deviation above and below the median poin it HUGE!

I help brokers build businesses they love.

Smarter Agent is a fabulous app that works on over 50 phones and handhelds, and is independent of an aggregator like Zillow. No ads!

Like J. Philip said -- I was talking with a guy the other day who used Yelp on his iPhone to type in some obscure vacuum cleaner bag he needed, and yelp found a local store, he called, they had it, and then it GPSd him all the way there.  I think this Zillow app is absolutely killer!  I'm really starting to get annoyed with my BB everytime I hear about these great apps.

You Deserve a Full-Time Agent, Not Reduced Results

I think a lot of people are getting a bit too enthralled here with all of the bells and whistles along with the dog and pony shows. A lot of what our customers want are user friendly search engines and information sources they can use on their computers with the option of printing up the results if they want to. But go ahead and try these out. But I am betting that the people with good websites, large pictures, solid information and good personal service will out sell those that depend on these fancy apps that the majority of buyers are NOT going to use to find homes. Guess if they are bored they can drive down the street checking the Zestimates of all the homes. Personally I am too busy selling homes. I have yet to hear of an agent getting rich off of FaceBook or Twitter and the same will apply to these apps.

Unfortunately Zillow doesn't track most of our market data beside not being available for my Smartphone. I agree thought with the posts by John and Gregory; one can lose focus with the toys and not focus on the real mission of selling homes/property. There is a differance between toys and tools.

I love my iphone for the ability to sync with my Mac and the many great apps. Many of my clients also use iphones so will have to check out Zillow's and decide for myself. Thanks!
