Click here to follow me on TwitterHow important is social media to your business?  According to market research, people who are fans of a particular product on Facebook are 60% more likely to recommend that product than those who don't.  Followers of a brand name or product on Twitter are 79% more likely to do so.  Great word of mouth advertising, don't you think?  At such a low cost in comparison with other forms of advertisement, social media is a wonderful way to keep in touch with your audience.

Click here to friend me on Facebook.Nowadays, most consumers expect that a company has some form of online profile, whether it be Facebook, Twitter or something else.  Facebook and Twitter are, by far, the largest social media outlets online at the moment.  In fact, many people polled by the market researcher believed that by not having an online presence in the social media arena, a company was basically telling them that they don't believe in the power of social media and, by default, don't really need the business of the demographic that frequents these social media outlets.  It also projects a much older image for a company who doesn't seem to want to bother with the newest ways to communicate with their audience.  That can be a turn-off for potential customers.

So, what are you doing in terms of social media for your business?  Do you see the importance of social media in not only how your company is exposed to potential clients but also to how it is perceived by them?  Please, let me know.  I'd love to hear your stories and ideas.

Pamela, you are right on regarding social media. I'm excited to be a part of a company that embraces this medium and I personally believe a strong presence in the social media is an important component of personal and company branding. It's a whole new way of connectivity and it will only continue to grow in importance to the business world.

I was just interviewed for an article about Twitter and how it is the new important thing, but all social media is useful. It's all about leveraging your time for the best and most widespread exposure for your business!

Hi Julia - For many years, I worked with the search engine optimization model and it was very beneficial to my business.  However, when I started putting social media marketing techniques into place, my online presence skyrocketed.  Thank you for your input.

Well said, Vanessa.  People either Twitter or they hate it.  If they hate it, I don't think they understand it.  Lots of power there.

Hi Barbara - Do you use online invitations to promote your open houses?  I have clients as well as entire real estate offices who are involved in community events.  We send out online e-vites and it helps the attendance.

Pamela, I just watched your video on your profile and you did such a great job with it!  One of these days I will try it.......I just hate seeing and hearing myself.  Maybe if I worked on what I'd like to say and practice it I could come up with something.  I think it would take hours of practice video though!

Pamela and company that is not into social media is missing the boat.  The rewards have been beyond my wildest expectations on every level - and we're really quite new to the game, only a few years.

Pamela,

I know I'm not doing it right, but that's what I'm learning here.

Blogging has worked for me and FB keeps me in contact with many people that I haven't seen in a long time.  I'm still working on Twitter.

Hi Ann - It took me a few attempts - but I'm a perfectionist.  I only do videos on a good hair day - not too often.  I'll have to get over myself and just do it!

Hi Anna - I spent many, many years working on SEO.  It worked well for my online position.  It wasn't until I started working on SMM that I started getting indexed within a few hours.

Hi Irene - I have a love-hate relationship with Twitter.  Facebook has given me some opportunities to provide good information to others and help them when I can.  I always say, "Give away your best stuff!".  It allows others to know and trust you.

Hi Coleen - Thank you for your response.  There aren't too many rules to social media.  Just imagine yourself at a cocktail party or live networking event.  Be more interested in participating through listening  than in promoting your agenda.  That's pretty much it.
