I visited my daughter, who is currently stationed with the Air Force in Italy, in May. I had to check out how she lived, where she worked, who her supervisors and colleagues are etc... I was pleasantly surprised at the nice Air Force facilities, compared to what I've seen with the Army. What the Army calls "gym", the Air Force call "fitness studio". hat the Army calls "barracks", the Air Force calls "dorms". And those dorms are nice. Each airman (yes, even females are called "airman") has his/her own room and shares a kitchen and a bath room with a dorm mate. When I saw my daughter's room, the Stager in me took over. I googled the nearest Ikea store, and an hour later I was in Padua, shopping.

Here are the before and after pictures.

Isn't it amazing what a few hundred dollars can do? Her dorm mate asked if I could "pimp-out" her room, too.

My next big project will be my daughters wedding decoration project.

Very nice job, I bet your daughter is thrilled and all of her fellow Airman are a bit jealous. The difference is amazing. Hope you had a great time in Italy.

This is FANTABULOUS!  I truly love the huge flowing flowers.  Are they a poster or fabric!  the filmy curtains are delish, too.  Brilliant job.

PS Yeah, staging gets under your skin.  I realized the other day I was staging our little corner at the town pool!  oy!

It looks very nice! I bet she is grateful to come home to her "dorm room" now! It looks very upscale and tranquil at the same time. Definately not a military establishment!

Nice job, it looks great.  By looking at it I would have never guessed it was military.  Things have changed alot.

Thank you all for all the kind comments. The flowers are peel-off cut-outs from Ikea. They worked great because putting nail holes in the walls is against regulations. The room transformation definitely made her feel more at home.

Sandy, I just discovered your blog. You have some great stuff in there.  I love the transformation of your daughter's dorm.  Gogling Ikea in Italy and running off to Padua...you're a pretty cool mom.  =)

Maggie,

I'm glad you like my blog. I'll tell my two teenagers still living at home that you said I'm a cool mom. Maybe that will earn me some points with them.

Nice job Sandy.  Your "before" photo looks like my old barracks room.

The flowers are great.  I'll have to check out those peel-off cutouts!

Sandy, good luck with the brownie points.  My two think I am the uncoolest ever.  They bust out laughing in unison at some of my feeble attempts.  They don't realize that I know more than they do.  He who laughs last.....  LOL
