From your central location in Mission Valley, world-class beaches are only minutes away. Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, Mission Bay Park, and Pacific Beach are the closest. Over at 3999 Mission Boulevard in Pacific Beach, at the corner of Mission Boulevard and Pacific Beach Boulevard, is The Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa.
The Mission Boulevard entrance to the hotel features a beautiful water fountain, interesting architecture, and valet parking.
Once you get inside to the lobby, the relaxing beauty just gets better with a floor to ceiling water fall, a stream that runs from the lobby under a glass wall and to the outdoor patio, and lots of fish.
Along with it being a hotel and spa - and a great place to stay for a romantic getaway, even if you live in the San Diego area - it is also a tourist destination. On the Mission Bay Park side of the hotel, you can catch a ride on the Bahia Belle for a trip across Mission Bay:
The Bahia Belle is a Mississippi-style sternwheeler, a paddle boat if you will, from the late 19th century. A round trip ride takes a couple of hours because you'll have time on the other side of Mission Bay to get off at the Bahia Resort Hotel and look around, catching any of the many trips back to The Catamaran.
If you sit on the open air deck on top, be sure to take a sweater or jacket with you in the evening; it does get chilly, even in the summer. Bahia or Catamaran guests ride free; public rides are $10 for adults and $3 for children.
Just outside the back patio there are usually several parrots of various species just hanging around on their perches. Unfortunately, during my last visit they were off exhibit due to the wind and rain. However, there were two little parrots inside being a littlte romantic:
Along the many streams throughout the property, you can find all sorts of birds, including snowy egrets, great blue herons, Mandarin ducks, mallard ducks, and, of course, seagulls.
The grounds have lush, tropical landscaping with some interesting plants:
If you choose to leave the beautiful grounds, you can walk the many palm-tree-lined streets of Pacific Beach to many local bars and restaurants:
For something a little more intimate, you can rent a paddle boat or something larger and cruise around Mission Bay:
You won't be disappointed with a stay at The Catamaran Resort & Spa or just a visit to walk the relaxing grounds and perhaps lay out on the beach for a while and do a little people watching. Whatever you choose to do, I know you'll enjoy it, and you'll be back soon!
