System Overview
The CCX Trading System has three component parts, which are integrated to provide Registry Account holders with real-time data to support trading, assist in managing member emissions baselines, reduction targets and compliance status.
1. The CCX Registry
The CCX Registry is the electronic database that serves as the official record holder and transfer mechanism for Carbon Financial Instrument® (CFI®) contracts. All CCX Members have CCX Registry Accounts.
2. The CCX Trading Platform
The CCX Trading Platform is an internet-accessible marketplace for executing trades among CCX Registry Account holders, and to complete and post trades that are established through private bilateral negotiations.
3. The Clearing and Settlement Platform
The Clearing and Settlement Platform processes daily information from the CCX Trading Platform on all trade activity. This system is directly linked to the Registry to faciliate same day delivery of CFI contracts from trading activity, provided as a service to Registry Account holders.
The CCX Registry is a serialized greenhouse gas emission (GHG) allowance tracking system that provides CCX Registry Account holders a full suite of administration and reporting tools to assist in managing their GHG emission allowances, emission offsets and early action credits.
CCX Registry Account holders can use the registry to:
- Manage GHG emissions inventory (go to Emissions Summary).
- Manage CCX Carbon Financial Instrument® (CFI®) holdings (go to Holdings Summary).
- Search for trades and allowance transfers (go to Transactions History).
- Review member statements (go to Daily Clearing Statements or Monthly Clearing Statements).
- Access Member-only information (go to Related Documents).

The CCX Trading Platform is an anonymous, fully electronic system for posting and accepting bids and offers to buy and sell Carbon Financial Instrument® (CFI®) contracts. Electronic trading in CCX's standardized carbon commodity provides price transparency and anonymity. All trades are guaranteed through CCX's clearing and settlement systems. Delivery of C
FI contracts between CCX Registry Account holders occur on the same day the trade takes place. For banking purposes, CCX pays and collects on a T+1 basis.
