FREE Services from Realtors--is it a good philosophy?

Real Estate Agent with Ranches PLUS

A couple of days ago I had the opportunity to visit with a local businessman. He is well known in the area and has been in business for decades. He knew I was in the ranch realty business.

As we spoke he kept talking about using different local Realtors® to provide him with acreage comps. I discovered that he is USING the INFORMATION but NOT using the Realtors® that provided him with the data. I asked why he didn't use the Realtors® that provided him the services, his comment was "why buy the cow --when the milk is free".

I understand that some Realtors® are HOPING to get business from a prominent business person BUT when do you draw the line at providing FREE services?

I have seen and taught hundreds of Realtors® that continue to give away valuable services that they (realtors) have either bought or have learned about from education programs that enabled them to interpolate data to make that data palatable for the laymen.

I'd be interested to hear from the real estate community how you handle -- FREE services.
