Proxy Errors and New Servers

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with ActiveRain

We recently brought on 3 new servers to handle the rash of proxy errors that have been occurring on the site. We are very aware of the issues that these errors present and the challenges associated with having to deal with them.

No one is more concerned by the errors than our team, as we highly value the time our members invest to utilize ActiveRain. It is our goal to deliver a tool that is reliable, in addition to providing value to your business by helping you reach potential clients.

We do have a resolution in sight as our development resources are focused on bringing these new servers online and relieving the obvious strain that our current servers are facing.

Please accept our sincere apologies and know that we are 100% focused on resolving the issue as swiftly and succinctly as we can. Feel free to use the comment space below to berate, ridicule, and vent. However, future consideration (you know, like they do with baseball trades) will be given to those that are gracious to our growing pains.

(But I'm a big boy, and these errors are just as aggravating to me as they are to anyone so I completely expect to be berated, ridiculed and vented upon.......or is it vented on?)

Yahoo! My computer would have been sent flying through my window a couple times had the power cord not been attached. I blamed it.

Good Morning Bob, thank you for your work on this continuing problem. More concerned about the outside folks than us forgiving members. If you need some help, give me a call. Take care,

Frank

Bob,

It's Saturday, and I just went through my usual routine: 30 minutes here, not 60; no error messages etc.

I think (or at least hope) that you've got this thing fixed!

Frustration levels still very high with PROXY SERVER being stuffed in our faces repeatedly today. Obviously the new servers are not the answer to the Active Rain problem. Just watch... this one will probably deliver my post. The last 6 attempts at posting and blogging were ejected into cyberspace.

This Proxy Error thing has been going on for a while now. It makes it harder for perspective buyer or seller to get to our outside blog. Yes, it shows up great on search engine, but if it does not load, it defeats the purpose. I know the AR team is working hard to get this resolve, I am just curious how long and when we can see a result?

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the update. I know you all are working hard at getting this fixed and I really appreciate the effort.

I am bummed out that the proxy error situation prevented me from entering the localism posting contest in time.....we're in the middle of packing for our 3rd move in 18 months (moving on Friday) so the short windows of time I had to get a post up meant that proxy errors and bad gateways prevented me from joining in on the contest.

I'm looking forward to a smoother running AR (as is everyone else, obviously).....and more contests that I can join! :)

Bob, Are you an Eddie Izzard fan? Your post reminds me of something he talks about.... long story.... Yeah, so I am thrilled that the new servers are coming online, I hit a slew of proxy errors this morning, it can't happen soon enough.

But what I find most interesting.... most curious..... most revealing..... you wanted to get beat up here.

I'm just sayin....

I've gotten proxy errors, but also noticed how much slower AR is running of late.  I assumed it was the servers being maxed out.  I hope that the three new servers can provide a more robust network.  Are you planning ahead for future growth as well?  The network will only continue to grow and stress out the capacity.  Thanks to your team for getting on this.

Disclaimer:  I like A/R a lot.

This proxy error issue is making me come to the site less than I used to.

Disclaimer:  The following is not intended as a snarky, sarcastic comment.

I am a techno-idiot so I really do not understand exactly what a proxy error is - don't really care to understand it either. If, the problem is from increased traffic as a result of organic growth as Bob indicates, it will be solved paradoxically, to some degree, when people spend less time here.

Disclaimer:  I totally believe that the A/R gang is working diligently on the issue.

From a business perspective, this problem that many organizations have had since the dawn of time.  Growth hits a plateau because the growth itself begins to lower service levels.  Even in the Real Estate business.

The more clients we have, the less time we have for each client. It is incumbent on each of us - including A/R - to build the infrastructure of our businesses to handle growth.  Having come into the R/E biz about 3 years ago as the market was turning downwards, I have not yet been faced with the awful problem of having more things to do than I can do.

I have however been systematizing every thing I do, so that when we're booming (which is inevitable) the high level of service I provide will not suffer.

If it is to continue as a valuable resource,  A/R has to get this thing fixed - soon.
