Washington Park: The Washington Park Neighborhood is located in south central Denver, and is considered one of Denver's most popular and trendiest neighborhoods. Often referred to by locals as simply "Wash Park", the Washington Park Neighborhood is named after the 162-acre Washington Park from which it derives its name.
Development of the Washington Park started soon after the area known as South Denver was formed. After the silver bust of the 1890s, South Denver was annexed into Denver proper.
Washington Park was created in 1899. Once the park began to take shape, the beauty of Washington Park had enough of a draw to attract residential development. By 1901, the Washington Park area became more popular. The big real estate development boom for Washington Park came in the 1920s and 30's when the largest number of homes were built. Architectural styles in Washington Park are Bungalows, Denver Squares, Victorians, Spanish Revival and the "pop-top". Also popular in recent years is the "scrape" where entire houses where scraped off and new homes were constructed. This offered a historic neighborhood feel to Washington Park while the new homes had all of the modern conveniences of today.
